TMC Urges PM Modi for Special Parliament Session Post-Pahalgam Attack

TMC MPs urged PM Modi to convene a special Parliament session post-Pahalgam attack, aiming for public transparency and discussing India's anti-terrorism initiatives.

TMC Urges PM Modi for Special Parliament Session Post-Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) – On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs took a significant step by writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the convening of a special session of Parliament. The request is aimed at informing the public about the initiatives undertaken to combat terrorism following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.

The TMC MPs, representing both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, gathered in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan, the former Parliament building, to discuss this pressing issue. "We have all signed a letter to the prime minister requesting that a special session of Parliament be held after the MPs' delegations return home from their travels on June 5," stated Sagarika Ghose, the deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha, after the meeting.

Ghose emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that while the TMC has backed the government’s multi-party delegations sent abroad to communicate India’s message against terrorism, the citizens also deserve a clear understanding of the government's efforts.

"All India Trinamool Congress Chairperson and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that while we have fully cooperated with the Government of India in sending participants in the delegations abroad that have gone to speak about India's resolve against Pakistan-based terrorism, our leader has said it is time to convene a special session of Parliament because citizens of India also need to know about the government's steps in combating Pakistan-based terrorism," Ghose conveyed.

The MPs observed a minute of silence during the meeting to honor the individuals who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack and the subsequent response actions. Opposition parties have been consistently calling for a special session of Parliament in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. This demand was reiterated during an all-party meeting that aimed to brief MPs about Operation Sindoor.

In response to the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, India has deployed seven multi-party delegations to various key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council, to reinforce India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism. These delegations are led by prominent political figures: Baijayant Panda, Ravi Shankar Prasad (both BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Kanimozhi (DMK), and Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), covering a total of 32 countries along with the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

TMC's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, is part of the delegation led by Jha.
