Three civilians killed in Pakistan shelling along LoC and IB

Three civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir after the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire by launching unprovoked, indiscriminate firing and artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), the Indian Army reported late Tuesday.

The incident took place during the night of May 6-7, when Pakistani troops opened fire on civilian areas without provocation.

According to the Indian Army, it has responded to the aggression in a “proportionate manner.” “During the night of 06-07 May 2025, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K. Three innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling. Indian Army are responding in a proportionate manner,” the Army said in an official statement.

The ceasefire breach occurred just hours after India carried out coordinated precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). These strikes were conducted as a response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which left 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national dead. The Ministry of Defence described the strikes as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature.”

“Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution,” the statement added.

As per credible sources cited by ANI, the Indian Armed Forces successfully struck nine terrorist locations—four within Pakistan, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot, and five in PoJK. These strikes used precision-guided munitions and were executed in coordination by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Intelligence inputs guided the operations, and all strikes were conducted from Indian soil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly monitored the operation throughout the night.

CNN also reported that the Indian operation marked the deepest incursion into Pakistan’s undisputed territory since the 1971 war. Citing Pakistani sources, CNN stated that India targeted five locations: three in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and two in Punjab province—Ahmadpur East and Muridke.

The targets were carefully chosen to eliminate top operatives of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfits, believed to be planning attacks against India.

Despite India’s calibrated military action, Pakistan again violated the ceasefire by firing artillery shells in the Bhimber Gali area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch-Rajouri region early Wednesday. Officials stated that the Indian Army is responding appropriately and in a controlled manner.

In a social media post, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) said: “Pakistan again violates the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajouri area. Indian Army is responding appropriately in a calibrated manner.”
