The officials suspended include 12 Assistant Commissioners, five Deputy Commissioners, three District Excise Officers, and two Assistant District Excise Officers. Their names appeared in the fourth supplementary chargesheet filed by the state&rsquo;s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on July 7.
The liquor scam, initially pegged at ₹2,161 crore, has grown to an estimated ₹3,200 crore, with investigations uncovering a wide-ranging network of illegal liquor sales and unaccounted commissions, especially in high-consumption districts. Officials were allegedly involved in enabling the sale of untaxed country liquor and facilitating kickbacks.
&ldquo;Several scams took place during the previous Congress government. Every case is being thoroughly investigated by both central and state agencies. No one found guilty will be spared. Our government is committed to clean and accountable governance,&rdquo; said Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, reaffirming his administration&rsquo;s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
To date, five chargesheets have been submitted in the case, and 13 individuals have been arrested. Among those apprehended are former Excise Minister and sitting Congress MLA Kawasi Lakhma, former IAS officer Anil Tuteja, and businessman Anwar Dhebar. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also actively investigating the money laundering angle linked to the scam, with its roots traced back to the period between 2019 and 2022.
CM Sai&rsquo;s latest action underscores his administration&rsquo;s resolve to ensure transparency and accountability in governance. Within six months of taking office, he introduced a new excise policy aimed at eliminating corruption and middlemen in liquor trade operations. According to the policy, the government will now directly procure liquor from manufacturers and sell it to consumers through its agency.
This move marks a significant shift in the state's approach to managing the liquor business and signals the Chief Minister&rsquo;s intent to build a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free administrative system in Chhattisgarh.

Deepak Yadav allegedly shot dead his 25-year-old daughter at the family's double-storey home in the upscale Sushant Lok area on Thursday. He has confessed to the crime.
Police said they were investigating all possible angles in the murder, including what the player's mother was doing when the incident occurred.
They claimed that the tennis academy Radhika ran was the bone of contention between the father and the daughter.
A Gurugram police spokesperson said that Deepak has confessed to the crime and disclosed that his objection was to her daughter running the tennis academy, over which there had been altercations between the two on many occasions.
The accused felt that he was financially well off and also earned from rental income, so there was no need for his daughter to run an academy, the police claimed.
"Radhika used to run a tennis academy in Gurugram, and her father was not happy with it. On many occasions, he had told her to shut it, but she did not agree. Angered, he shot her thrice," the spokesperson added.&nbsp;

Ajay Ramchandra Gaude, state nodal officer for the implementation of the Act in the coastal state, said that of the 10,136 claims they have received, more than 4,000 have been made by &lsquo;Other Forest Dwellers' (OTFDs).
The Goa government under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that it will clear all land claims filed under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, popularly known as the Forest Rights Act, before December 19.
Gaude told PTI Videos that most of the claims have been received from the talukas of Canacona and Dharbandora in South Goa and Sattari in North Goa.
In Sattari, of the 2,460 claims settled so far, only 46 belong to members of the Scheduled Tribe community, while 2,414 have been filed by those from non-ST groups. As far as claims filed by groups as a single entity, no such requests have come from the ST community. However, 22 similar claims have been filed by OTFDs, he said.
According to the official, anybody belonging to any community, caste, or any religion can put in their claims if they live in the forest and depend on forest produce for sustenance.
In Dharbandora taluka, of the 1,704 claims settled, 761 are of tribals, 964 are non-ST beneficiaries. Of the 73 community claims in this taluka, 26 are of ST beneficiaries and 47 are from non-ST groups, the official said.
Gaude said the Forest Rights Act was brought in to help those living in forest areas for years and depending on forest produce.
&ldquo;So, the Forest Rights Act is basically for everyone. There is a misconception that the Forest Rights Act is only for the tribal community. It is not so,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s not just the tribal community that is benefiting under the Act. Through these forest rights claims, we are giving &lsquo;sanads&rsquo; (certificates giving right over land) to different communities in the state of Goa,&rdquo; he said.
However, the scene is different in the Canacona taluka, where all the 2,450 individuals whose claims are being settled belong to the ST community.
Vishant Ranganath Khandeparkar, a resident of Codli village in Dharbandora taluka, said his forefathers cultivated their land for more than 100 years.
&ldquo;After them, I am continuing it. Through the Act, we have got the sanad. The government and the forest department have done a good job,&rdquo; said the non-ST beneficiary.
Babita Nagesh Lambor, another non-tribal claimant and resident of Collem village in Dharbandora taluka, said they have been living in forest areas for over a century.
&ldquo;Earlier, we used to grow rice, sugarcane, cashewnut, coconut, and much more. We have got the sanad from the government and subsequently received benefits from the Agriculture Department,&rdquo; she said.

Radhika Yadav featured in a music video last year alongside an independent artist. Police officials said the music video might have triggered tensions at home, and this angle will also be probed.
In the FIR, Kuldeep Yadav said Deepak, his wife Manju and daughter Radhika lived on the first floor of the house in Sector 57 while he lived on the ground floor along with his family.
On Thursday, around 10.30 am, he suddenly heard a "loud explosion" and rushed to the first floor, the FIR stated.
"I saw my niece Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, and the revolver was found in the drawing room. My son, Piyush Yadav, also rushed to the first floor. Both of us picked up Radhika and rushed her in our car to Asia Maringo Hospital in Sector 56, where doctors declared her dead," the uncle said in his statement.
Earlier, police said the incident occurred around 2 pm when Radhika was on the first floor, cooking food in the kitchen.
Kuldeep Yadav said only Deepak, his wife and daughter were on the first floor of the house when the incident occurred. Their son Dheeraj was not present there at the time of the incident, the deceased's uncle told the police, which was recorded in the FIR.
According to police, Deepak fired at least five gunshots, three of which hit Radhika in the back, and killed her on the spot. It was earlier said that her mother was on the ground floor, and she rushed upstairs after hearing the gunshots, which, she said, sounded like a pressure cooker blast.
"My niece was a very good tennis player, and she had won several trophies. I am surprised why she was murdered. My brother has a licensed .32 bore revolver. It was lying there," the former tennis player's uncle told police.
A police official said they were probing all angles, including what the former tennis player's mother was doing when the killing happened.
According to sources, Deepak Yadav confessed that he shot at Radhika because he was often taunted for living off her income. Police, however, in an official statement, claimed that the tennis academy Radhika ran was the bone of contention between the father and the daughter.
"Radhika used to run a tennis academy, and her father was not happy with it," Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Singh said.
She was ranked 1999 by the International Tennis Federation. According to its website, Radhika Yadav had played tournaments earlier this year in Indore and Kuala Lumpur, but these were in the qualifying events and not the main draw.&nbsp;

Sharing the details, Mr. Aman Arora informed that the project worth Rs 150 crore is projected to yield annual savings of Rs 15 crore in electricity costs for various government departments. Several vehicles plunged into the river after a segment of the four-decade-old bridge, connecting Anand and Vadodara districts, collapsed near Gambhira village close to Padra town on Wednesday morning.
The operation resumed on the third day of the Gambhira bridge tragedy, with 18 bodies recovered by Thursday night. Efforts are still underway to trace two more persons, who are missing, Vadodara Collector Anil Dhameliya said.
&ldquo;The primary objective of our operation today is to recover a body trapped under a slab in the river, and the missing driver of a truck stuck in the water,&rdquo; he told mediapersons.
A list of eight missing persons was compiled on Thursday, and the bodies of six of them were recovered, he said.
The operation is being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies, with locals joining the efforts.
Dhameliya said that the rescue teams continue to work amid challenges, including muddy terrain, release of soda ash in water and a tanker filled with a highly corrosive substance.
A tanker that fell into the river was carrying sulphuric acid, and care is being made to ensure that it does not leak, he said.
There is a presence of soda ash in the water, which is causing irritation and itching for the rescuers. Attempts are being made to neutralise it, the official said.
Dhameliya said the mud in the river and on its banks has also complicated the rescue operation.
Since some vehicles, including a loaded truck, are still stuck in the muddy waters of the river, the district administration had used a &lsquo;high-performance truck&rsquo; of the Indian Army to pull them out, a government release said earlier.
To overcome the problem of mud, a temporary platform has been prepared on the riverbank for the rescue teams by spreading three truckloads of concrete mix, said the release.
On Thursday, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel suspended four engineers of the state&rsquo;s roads and buildings department in connection with the bridge collapse.
At least six major incidents of bridge collapse have taken place in Gujarat since 2021.

In August 2024, a small bridge on the Bhogavo river connecting Habiyasar village with Chotila town in Surendranagar district collapsed after a sudden rise in water following discharge from an overflowing dam. No casualties were reported in the incident.&nbsp;

Auto driver beaten in Virar for alleged anti-Marathi remarks; video sparks outrage amid rising tensions over language politics in Maharashtra.

A video showing an autorickshaw driver being beaten up allegedly by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers in Virar in Maharashtra's Palghar district for 'anti-Marathi' remarks has gone viral on social media, further fuelling controversy over the language issue in the state.
Police on Sunday said they have seen the video but not received any formal complaint in the matter so far, hence no case has been registered as of now.
Referring to the episode, a leader from the &lsquo;Uttar Bharatiya (North Indian)&rsquo; community has condemned &ldquo;attempts to incite violence&rdquo; and urged the state government to take strict action.
A local functionary of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena (UBT) claimed the autorickshaw driver was taught a befitting lesson and asserted that anyone insulting the Marathi language and the state will be given a reply in the "true Shiv Sena style".
The autorickshaw driver, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Marathi language, Maharashtra and Marathi icons. Its clip had also earlier surfaced on social media, drawing sharp reactions online and from local political groups.
Sources said the driver's anti-Marathi rant was triggered by an argument with a scooter rider concerning overtaking four days ago. When the scooter rider insisted that he speak in Marathi, the autorickshaw driver refused, claiming he would only speak in Hindi or Bhojpuri.
The video clip was recorded by bystanders, they added.
In the new video of the confrontation, which took place on Saturday, the auto-rickshaw driver is seen being slapped allegedly by a group of Shiv Sena (UBT) workers, including women, on a busy road near Virar railway station.
He is then made to publicly apologise to a man and his sister, with whom he allegedly misbehaved earlier, as well as to the state for "insulting" it and its linguistic and cultural heritage.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Virar city chief Uday Jadhav, who was present at the scene, later justified the action.
"If anyone dares to insult the Marathi language, Maharashtra, or Marathi people, they will get a reply in the true Shiv Sena style. We will not sit silent," Jadhav told reporters.
"The driver had the audacity to speak ill of Maharashtra and Marathi manoos. He was taught a befitting lesson. We made him apologise to the people of the state and to those he had offended," he added.
When contacted, a senior police official confirmed the incident occurred on Saturday, but said no formal complaint had been lodged so far.
"We have seen the viral video and are verifying the facts, but as of now, no complaint has been received from either party," the official said.
Meanwhile, Shivpratap Singh, a leader from the &lsquo;Uttar Bharatiya (North Indian)&rsquo; community, condemned &ldquo;attempts to incite violence&rdquo; and appealed to the state government to take strict legal action against those taking the law into their own hands.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Singh said the issue has been simmering for decades.
Referring to the assault on the auto driver, he said, &ldquo;If someone doesn&rsquo;t know how to speak Marathi, he will try to learn. Will you make him speak Marathi by using violence?&rdquo; Creating communal or regional discord in the name of Marathi or Hindi is unacceptable, he said.
The Hindi-Marathi row was ignited in the state, especially in the Mumbai metropolitan region, after opposition parties like the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena took on the government over two GRs on the three-language policy in schools and teaching of Hindi from Class I.
The Devendra Fadnavis dispensation had to withdraw the two government resolutions, following which the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS held a "victory rally" in Mumbai's Worli, the highlight of the event being estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray sharing the stage for the first time in nearly two decades.
Amid the language controversy, workers of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) slapped a food stall owner at Bhayander in neighbouring Thane district on July 1 for not speaking in Marathi.
Traders from the area later staged a protest against it.
On July 8, the MNS and other groups led a protest march in Mira Bhayandar area to defend Marathi 'asmita' (pride) and counter the traders' agitation.
The march witnessed the detention of several activists by the police, with leaders and workers of the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) also joining the protest.

India still looks 'saare jahan se accha' from space, astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla said on Sunday, wrapping up his 18-day stay at the International Space Station (ISS) reprising the words used by his icon Rakesh Sharma in 1984.
Shukla, who is set to begin his journey back to earth on Monday evening India time, also said that today's India looks full of ambition, fearless and confident from space, adding his own touch to describe the views of the country from the orbital lab.
"Jaldi hi dharti pe mulaqat karte hai (we will meet on earth soon)," Shukla said at a formal farewell ceremony onboard the ISS on Sunday.
Shukla recalled the time when his icon Rakesh Sharma had travelled to space 41 years ago and described how India looked from there.
"We all are still curious to know how India looks today from above. Aaj ka Bharat mahatvakanshi dikhta hai. Aaj ka Bharat nidar dikhta hai, Aaj ka Bharat confident dikhta hai. Aaj ka Bharat garv se purn dikhta hai. (Today's India looks full of ambition, fearless, confident and full of pride)," Shukla said.
"It is because of all these reasons, I can say it once again that today's India still looks 'saare jahan se accha'," he said.
The Axiom 4 (Ax-4) crew Commander Peggy Whitson, Pilot Shubhanshu "Shux" Shukla, and Mission Specialists Slawosz "Suave" Uznanski-Wisniewski and Tibor Kapu embarked on the space odyssey on June 25 from Florida and docked at the ISS on June 26.
The final days of the 18-day stay of the Ax-4 crew at the ISS were marked by feasts and farewells with seven other residents of the orbital laboratory.
A formal farewell ceremony on the ISS on Sunday was marked by brief remarks by the Ax-4 crew, some of whom appeared to have got emotional as they hugged the members of the Expedition 73 with whom new friendships were forged during the stay.
"I didn't imagine all of this when I started on the Falcon-9 on June 25. I think it has been incredible because of the people involved. People standing behind me (the Expedition 73 crew), have made it really special for us. It was an incredible joy to be here and work alongside professionals like you," said Shukla.
Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said the Axiom-4 mission is scheduled to undock from the ISS at 4:35 pm IST on Monday and reach back on earth on Tuesday off the California coast at 3 pm.
The four astronauts are expected to spend seven days in rehabilitation as they adjust back to life on earth under the influence of gravity, unlike the weightlessness experienced in orbit.
It has been a historic trip for Shukla, who became the first Indian to travel to the ISS and only the second to travel to space after Rakesh Sharma's pathbreaking spaceflight as part of the then Soviet Union's mission to Salyut-7 space station in 1984.
So far, Shukla has spent 18 days in space, witnessing 16 sunrises and sunsets every day as the ISS travels at a speed of 28,000 km per hour in an orbit about 400 km above the Earth.
ISRO paid approximately Rs 550 crore for Shukla's travel to the ISS, an experience that will help the space agency in the planning and execution of its human spaceflight programme, Gaganyaan, set to take to orbit in 2027.
Shukla and the three other astronauts are expected to board the spacecraft at 2.25 pm IST, wear their space suits and carry out the necessary tests before they begin their journey to the Earth.
The ISS is orbiting the Earth at a speed of 28,000 km per hour, and the Dragon spacecraft will initiate the autonomous undocking process to gradually slow down and re-enter the planet's atmosphere for a splashdown off the coast of California.
"The Dragon spacecraft will return with more than 580 pounds of cargo, including NASA hardware and data from over 60 experiments conducted throughout the mission," NASA said.
During his stay at the ISS, Shukla worked on the microalgae experiment, deploying and stowing samples that could one day provide food, oxygen and biofuels for deep-space missions, Axiom Space said in a statement.
The resilience of the microalgae makes them a promising asset to sustain life beyond Earth, it added.
"Exercise research and spacesuit maintenance topped the schedule for the Expedition 73 and Axiom Mission 4 crews on Thursday," the NASA statement said.
The crew also continued the Voyager Displays study, which examines how spaceflight affects eye movement and coordination.
The crew collected data for a study to explore how astronauts perceive and interact with their environment in orbit, which is critical for designing mentally supportive habitats for long-duration missions.
Another study focused on cerebral blood flow, investigating how microgravity and elevated carbon dioxide levels affect cardiovascular function, which could later benefit both astronauts and patients on the Earth.
Radiation exposure was monitored using the compact Rad Nano Dosimeter, a tool to assess astronaut safety.
The crew participated in the Acquired Equivalence Test, a cognitive experiment that measures learning and adaptability in space and supported the PhotonGrav study by collecting brain activity data to explore neuroadaptive technologies for space and medical applications.&nbsp;

As many as 22 Naxalites, who were active in the Abhujmad area and carrying collective rewards of Rs 37.5 lakh, surrendered in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Narayanpur district on Friday, a senior police official said.
The cadres, belonging to Kutul, Nelnar and Indravati area committees under the Maad division of Maoists, turned themselves in before senior police, Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials here.
The surrendered Naxalites told the police that they were disappointed with the &ldquo;hollow&rdquo; Maoist ideology and growing internal differences within the banned outfit, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria said.
They were also influenced by the development work being carried out in the Maad area in the district, including rapid construction of roads, and wanted to lead a normal life, he said.
Of the Naxalites who gave up arms, Manku Kunjam (33), a divisional committee member, carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh, while three area committee members, identified as Hidme Kunjam (28), Punna Lal alias Boti (26) and Saniram Korram (25), carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each, the official said.
Eleven cadres had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh each, while seven others had Rs 50,000 each, he said.
Naranpur police, its District Reserve Guard, ITBP and BSF have played a key role in their surrender. The development has caused a huge blow to the top Maoist cadres. The dream of Naxal-free Maad is taking shape, Guria said.
All the surrendered Naxalites were provided assistance of Rs 50,000 each and would be rehabilitated as per the government&rsquo;s policy, he said.
With this surrender, 132 Naxalites have quit violence in the district so far this year.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the success and said that Naxalites now want to shun guns and walk together on the path of development. The &lsquo;double engine&rsquo; government (BJP rule at the Centre and in the state) is committed to rooting out Naxalism by March 31, 2026, he said.
&ldquo;22 Naxalites carrying a bounty of Rs 37.5 lakh have surrendered in Narayanpur district. Rewards ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 8 lakh had been declared on them. So far, 1,476 Maoists have surrendered to our government (formed in December 2023),&rdquo; Sai said in a statement.
The laying down of arms by so many Naxalites points to the success of the government's new surrender and rehabilitation policy and public welfare schemes, he said.
&ldquo;Schemes like 'Niyad Nellnar' (your good village) have instilled confidence, and people have been quitting violence and returning to the mainstream of development. We are fully determined for the rehabilitation of these surrendered Naxalites,&rdquo; the CM added.

The death toll in the Mahisagar river bridge collapse in Gujarat's Vadodara district climbed to 19 on Friday after one of the injured persons succumbed to injuries at a hospital, officials said.
The search for the two missing persons is still underway, they said.
Several vehicles plunged into the river after a segment of the four-decade-old bridge, connecting Anand and Vadodara districts, collapsed near Gambhira village close to Padra town on Wednesday morning.
"Forty five-year-old Narendrasinh Parmar, a resident of Dahevan, who was one of the five injured persons undergoing treatment at the SSG Hospital died on Friday," an official said.
Eighteen bodies were recovered till Thursday night, and the operation resumed on the third day with efforts being made by the teams engaged at the site to trace two more persons, who are missing, Vadodara Collector Anil Dhameliya said.

The investigation report with its technical and administrative reasons will be submitted to the CM and other decisions will be taken on the basis of it, he added.
"The state government placed four roads and buildings department officials under suspension," said Patel who also later visited the injured persons at the SSG Hospital and enquired about their health.
Collector Dhameliya earlier told the media that the primary objective of the ongoing search and rescue operation was to recover a body trapped under a slab in the river, and trace the missing driver of a truck stuck in the water.
A list of eight missing persons was compiled on Thursday, and the bodies of six of them were recovered, he said.
The operation is being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies, with locals joining the efforts.
