Telangana Adjusts School Schedules Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

Hyderabad, Aug 13 (PTI): The Telangana government has announced holiday adjustments for schools in response to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas. The government declared a half-day holiday for schools within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area for August 13 and 14, while schools in Warangal and other specific districts will remain closed for the full day. This decision encompasses both government and private educational institutions. Schools in Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts are among the ones affected. .

Moreover, the state's Irrigation Minister, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, instructed all irrigation department officials to remain at their posts and maintain heightened vigilance in anticipation of potential emergencies related to the heavy downpour. The leave for all irrigation officials has been suspended for the next four days to ensure continuous monitoring of irrigation projects, reservoirs, canals, and tanks. The Minister also assured that he is accessible via mobile for direct contact by any official facing critical situations concerning irrigation assets and water bodies throughout the state. .

Concurrently, state Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha engaged in a teleconference with health department officials, directing them to ensure superintendents and staff are prepared and available in hospitals to address patient needs during this period. .

Additionally, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy convened a meeting with relevant ministers and officials to strategize for the upcoming 72 hours, as part of precautionary actions in light of the IMD's rainfall forecasts. Among several directives, he emphasized the potential for IT companies in Hyderabad to implement work-from-home arrangements to minimize road congestion. He further instructed the cancellation of leave for all officers and staff, reinforcing readiness during the anticipated heavy rains set to commence on Wednesday. .
