Teacher Arrested for Molesting Student in Palghar

Palghar, Aug 25 (PTI) In a troubling incident, a teacher has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old student at a private coaching center in Maharashtra's Palghar district, the police reported on Monday.

According to the victim's statement, the 42-year-old Chemistry teacher invited her for an extra class on Saturday afternoon and allegedly molested her in his office at the Nalla Sopara coaching center.

The following day, the teacher reportedly attempted to take a photograph of the girl during class, which she managed to avoid, as stated by an official from the Nalla Sopara police station.

The girl's parents confronted the teacher at the coaching center and subsequently handed him over to the authorities.

Additionally, the victim claimed that the teacher had previously made inappropriate advances toward her.

Based on her complaint, police arrested the accused on Sunday, booking him under Section 74 for an assault with intent to outrage a woman's modesty under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
