New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) - Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL), in partnership with engineering giant Indra, has achieved a significant milestone by producing an advanced naval air surveillance radar.

With the development of the 3D Air Surveillance Radar (3D-ASR), TASL has become the first Indian firm to showcase the ability to build and integrate next-generation naval surveillance radar systems.

The completed 3D-ASR, named Lanza-N, was successfully delivered and installed on an Indian Navy warship, according to a statement from the company.

This accomplishment represents a critical step in India's efforts towards defense self-reliance, with a high degree of localization in the system's integration and assembly.

The radar has been integrated smoothly with the ship's systems.

It completed rigorous sea trials, where numerous naval and aerial platforms were used to evaluate radar performance across a range of radar cross-sections, the company stated.

To support ongoing radar production, an assembly, integration, and testing facility has been established at Tata Advanced Systems' Karnataka location, aiming to expedite future deliveries.

Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of TASL, commented, "Our work with Indra demonstrates a shared dedication to enhancing India's radar manufacturing capabilities."

"By capitalizing on-ground synergies, technical skill, and a strong local supply chain, we are creating a robust ecosystem for sophisticated defense technologies," he stated.

Ana Buendia, Head of Indra's Naval Business Unit, noted, "The project exceeds merely delivering and deploying radars for numerous vessels."

"We have fostered a significant partnership with Tata Advanced Systems, establishing a radar manufacturing facility in Bengaluru to provide local production and client support," Buendia said.

The Lanza-N by Indra is one of the most advanced long-range, three-dimensional tactical surveillance systems available, adept at spotting both friendly and hostile airborne and surface targets within a specific coverage area.

According to TASL, the radar is highly efficient at detecting drones, supersonic jets, anti-radiation missiles, and various naval platforms.

This marks the first deployment of a Lanza-N radar outside of Spain.
