Tamil Nadu Gears Up for Water Sports with Indian Coast Guard

Chennai, Oct 7 (PTI) In an effort to bolster and expand sailing and water sports activities throughout Tamil Nadu, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), and Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) have forged a strategic partnership to pool resources and share expertise.

I J Singh, Deputy Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard, Meganatha Reddy, Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, and Ashok Thakkar, Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 6 to solidify this collaboration.

The alliance is designed to promote sailing and other water sports, aiming to cultivate new opportunities for youth development and training. According to a press release, the initiative will help foster a robust community of water sports enthusiasts.

Pursuant to the MoU, ICG personnel and their families will gain access to training at TNSA facilities, along with opportunities to compete in national and international sailing events organized under TNSA's auspices. The ICG is committed to providing logistical support, berthing facilities, and trained staff for events and training programs orchestrated by TNSA and SDAT.

The ICG also plans to revive its annual Coast Guard Regatta, organized under the auspices of the Yachting Association of India. SDAT is set to collaborate with TNSA and ICG to train underprivileged children, coastal communities, and children of ICG personnel in water sports and safety practices.
