Taiwan hits back at China for objecting to greetings to Indian PM Modi

Taiwan had a sharp response to China's interference in its ties with India. The island nation's deputy foreign minister said "Modi ji will not be intimated" and said Beijing reaction was unreasonable interference.

China had previously criticised a conversation between Indian PM Narendra Modi and Taiwanese president Lai Ching-te. The latter had congratulated Modi on winning India's 18th general elections, making him the prime minister for the third consecutive time.

"This is a very common thing to congratulate each other. Why do other people have something to say about it? I don't understand. This is a very unreasonable interference between two leaders congratulating each other on the commonly used X platform," Lai Ching-te said.

After his re-election, Indian PM Modi responded to a flurry of foreign leaders who had congratulated him. In his reply, Modi said that he looks "forward to closer ties as we work towards mutually beneficial economic and technological partnership."
