Supreme Court finds 'something troubling' in President's assent to Jallikattu, Kambala

The Jallikattu debate appears to be reigniting with the Supreme Court saying that it found something "troubling" in the Presidential assent allowed to the bull-taming sport in Tamil Nadu, and animal racing in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The judges said, "Our problem is whether putting that question to you will again involve disclosure of many things."

The Supreme Court was hearing petitions by animal welfare organisations and individuals challenging state laws.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Tamil Nadu government, said, "The assent is based on a Constitutional procedure. The threshold to test it is high. Otherwise, every Presidential assent will be challenged as being bad in courts."
