Stalin Advocates for Restoring State Powers Amid Central Encroachment

Chennai, Aug 15 (PTI) — Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has voiced concerns over the encroachment on state powers in domains such as education, advocating for legal measures to restore them. In his Independence Day address, Stalin emphasized the necessity of granting additional powers to states, while criticizing the central government's reluctance to provide rightful financial resources to state administrations, which he believes undermines federalism.

Stalin underscored the imperative of taking legal steps to recover the states' rightful powers, urging that the moment is ripe to initiate these efforts. He highlighted that the country's freedom was a collective victory, achieved by people from diverse states, religions, languages, and cultures, reinforcing the inclusive vision of India's founding fathers.

The Chief Minister asserted that honoring the nation's founders involves fulfilling their dream of a unified country that belongs to all its people, forever. During the Independence Day celebration, Stalin awarded the Thagaisal Thamizhar (Distinguished Tamilian) Award to Indian Union Muslim League leader KM Khader Mohideen. Additionally, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan received the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award.
