Sikkim Schools Advised on COVID-19 Measures Amid New Outbreak

Gangtok, Jun 16 (PTI) The Sikkim Education Department has issued an advisory urging all government and private schools across the state to implement precautionary measures in response to a fresh outbreak of COVID-19, officials reported on Monday.

Educational institution heads, along with hostel administration, have been instructed to meticulously monitor the health conditions of students, teachers, and employees.

“All government and private schools are required to enforce precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding the health of students, teachers, and staff,” an official emphasized.

The advisory recommends that any individual showing symptoms such as cough, cold, or fever persisting for more than two days should seek medical consultation.

“In case of a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases, the chief education officer, in coordination with the head office, may decide to suspend affected classes for up to two days to facilitate thorough sanitization,” it stated.

Considering the ongoing first-term examinations, which commenced on June 12, schools have been directed to isolate symptomatic students by allowing them to sit in a separate exam room.

Moreover, the advisory reiterated the necessity for schools to adhere to established health and safety protocols to prevent further transmission of the virus.

Sikkim currently reports 58 active COVID-19 cases, with one additional case confirmed, another official noted.
