Shot in arm for Mamata Banerjee: Pavan Verma, Kirti Azad among 3 leaders join TMC

Three Opposition leaders joined the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday with the Mamata Banerjee party saying their inclusion will strengthen the West Bengal-based political group.

The development comes amid the West Bengal chief minister's visit to the national capital ahead of Parliament's Winter Session on November 29.

Among the new enterants is former JD(U) MP Pavan Varma who after joining the Trinamool Congress said it was the need of the hour to work for strengthening the Opposition.

Varma, along with Prashant Kishor, was expelled from the JD(U) last year after the two stepped up attacks on its alliance partner BJP over the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Kirti Azad and and Ashok Tanwar also joined the TMC on Tuesday. Both the leaders met TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the South Avenue and joined the party.

The former cricketer told the press that he will work under Mamata’s leadership and will resist all attempts to divide society.
