Shiv Sena's Rajpurohit detained for extortion allegations

Mumbai police have recently detained Lalsingh Rajpurohit, a senior office-bearer of the Shiv Sena, on charges of extortion, according to official statements on Monday.

Rajpurohit, who holds the position of 'Vibhag Parmukh' (division head) for the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction in the suburban area of Kandivali, was taken into custody late Sunday night.

Following his arrest, Rajpurohit faced suspension from his role in the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction due to his alleged involvement in an extortion case filed in December of the previous year.

This information was confirmed by a police officer familiar with the situation.

The Kandivali police revealed that Rajpurohit, along with six associates, was accused of demanding money from a road construction contractor.

Moreover, just last Friday, another First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him.

This new case involves allegations that he forcibly occupied a shop belonging to a Marathi family, with police contemplating his arrest in this matter as well.

As news of these incidents surfaced, Eknath Shinde, a leader of the faction, ordered the expulsion of Rajpurohit from the party. Consequently, his suspension was confirmed.

Additionally, charges of defrauding an elderly couple and illegally seizing a shop have been filed against Rajpurohit at the Kandivali police station. Investigations into these allegations are currently ongoing, officials stated.
