'Shame on you': Sikh IPS officer slams BJP workers for calling him 'Khalistani'

A Sikh IPS officer was allegedly called 'Khalistani' by a group of BJP workers while he was deputed at Dhamakhali to stop West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari from visiting Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.

In a video, IPS officer Jaspreet Singh was seen angry and saying to the BJP workers, “Just because I am wearing a turban, you people are calling me a Khalistani? Is this what you have learnt? If a police officer wears a turban and performs his duty honestly, he becomes a Khalistani for you? Shame on you."

Singh said, “I am just doing my job. Did I say anything about your religion, why are you speaking about my religion?"

Sharing the video on X, the chief minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee said, “Today, the BJP's divisive politics has shamelessly overstepped constitutional boundaries."

Tagging the BJP on X, she said, "As per BJP every person wearing a turban is a Khalistani. We stand firm in protecting Bengal's social harmony and will take stern lawful measures to prevent any attempts to disrupt it."

However, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul along with Adhikari accused the officer of not fulfilling his duties and denied the allegation of ‘Khalistani’ jibe.
