Security Intensified for Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Post-Attack

New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI): Paramilitary forces have been stationed outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, following an incident that led to a re-evaluation of her security framework. This change follows an attack she faced during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her Civil Lines Camp Office.

The police department announced that this move aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future while enhancing security measures during public engagements attended by the Chief Minister.

"Complainants will no longer have direct access to the Chief Minister during these 'Jan Sunwai' sessions. All complaints will now be scrutinized and verified before being presented to Gupta. Additionally, a specified perimeter will be established to prevent visitors from approaching her directly," a police source explained.

The recent incident involved a man from Gujarat, named Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, aged 41, who allegedly attacked and pulled Chief Minister Gupta’s hair during a session. He was subdued and arrested immediately. Legal action ensued, as he was charged with attempted murder, among other offenses.

Officials confirmed that the new security measures are being implemented with immediate effect and will apply to all upcoming public interactions held at the Chief Minister's Office.
