Scared for their lives, migrants labourers leave Kashmir

His belongings on his shoulders and his mind filled with fear, Ajay is leaving Srinagar. He wants to return to his home, to Rajasthan. And, he is not alone.

With worry looming large on their faces, several migrant labourers huddled at a bus stop with their possessions packed in bags.

Waiting for a bus that will take them away from Srinagar.

Some want to go back to their home states, some to the plains of Jammu.

This pervasive fear due to series of killings of non-local labourers by militants.

On Sunday, two of them were killed in Kulgam district.

A street vendor from Bihar and a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh were killed in Srinagar and Pulwama respectively on Saturday.

11 local and non-local resident have been killed in targeted attacks by militants in the past two weeks.

Over 30 target killings have taken place in Kashmir this year, with most being local Kashmiris.
