SC verdict on Article 370: Omar Abdullah is disappointed but not...

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has reacted to the Supreme Court verdict upholding Centre's decision to remove provisions of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

'Disappointed but not disheartened. The struggle will continue. It took the BJP decades to reach here. We are also prepared for the long haul,' the former J&K chief minister tweeted.

Ahead of the verdict, he had tweeted that pictures of locks on the gates of his house and said that he has been put under house arrest.

He tweeted 'Dear Mr LG these chains that have been put on my gate have not been put by me so why are you denying what your police force has done. It’s also possible you don’t even know what your police is doing? Which one is it? Are you being dishonest or is your police acting independent of you?'

PDP also claimed that their leader Mehbooba Mufti was put under house arrest ahead of the verdict.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has denied these claims

The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the Centre's August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370, which bestowed a special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and said steps should be taken to conduct elections to the Assembly in the Union Territory by September 30 next year.

The apex court also directed that statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir be restored at the earliest.
