Supreme Court Upholds High Court's Quashing of FIR in Mohan Delkar Case

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court has confirmed the Bombay High Court's decision, dismissing a plea that challenged the quashing of an FIR against nine individuals allegedly involved in abetting the suicide of former Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar in 2021.

The Bombay High Court had previously overturned the case on September 8, 2022, against individuals including Praful Khoda Patel, the administrator of the Union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu. The FIR was lodged following the discovery of Delkar, a seven-time MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, found deceased in a Mumbai hotel in 2021. His purported suicide note cited harassment and intimidation, which led to police targeting various individuals such as top bureaucrats and political leaders.

A bench, comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, had reserved its judgment on August 4 regarding the plea brought by Abhinav Delkar, the son of the late MP. Ultimately, the Supreme Court supported the high court's decision to quash the charges.
