Sanjay Gandhi to Bipin Rawat: List of prominent Indians killed in air crashes

A deadly chopper crash in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday claimed the lives of CDS Bipin Rawant, his wife and 11 other persons.

Here's a list of prominent Indians killed in air crashes:

June 1980: Indira Gandhi's son and Congress leader, Sanjay Gandhi, killed in an air crash while flying a Pitts S-2A aircraft in Delhi.

September 2001, former Civil Aviation Minister and senior Congress leader, Madhavrao Scindia, killed in a chopper crash onm way to UP's Kanpur.

March 2002: Former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi died when the helicopter he was travelling in crashed in heavy rain in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

March, 2005: Noted industrialist and Haryana power minister OP Jindal killed in a helicopter crash while on his way to Chandigarh from Delhi.

September 2009: Helicopter carrying the CM of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy crashed into the hills near Kurnool.

April 2011: The helicopter carrying Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Dorjee Khandu crashed in Tawang.
