Saif Ali Khan knife attack: Theft suspected, no gang involved, police detain suspect

Maharashtra Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, confirmed on Friday that no underworld gang is involved in the recent knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Kadam clarified that the suspect detained in connection with the attack is not linked to any gang and emphasized that there has been no information suggesting Khan had faced any prior threats.

“The suspect has a criminal history, but the attack appears to have been motivated solely by theft,” Kadam told reporters in Pune. The minister added that Khan has not requested security, though the police would provide protection if needed.

Khan, 54, was attacked in the early hours of Thursday at his Bandra residence. The assailant repeatedly stabbed him, including in his neck, before fleeing the scene. Khan underwent emergency surgery at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition, with doctors expecting his discharge within two to three days.

The police have detained a suspect whose facial features resemble the attacker captured on CCTV. Further investigations are ongoing, and authorities are tracking another individual linked to the crime. CCTV footage shows the suspect wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack as he fled the building.
