Female Engineering Student Allegedly Raped in Bengaluru College

Bengaluru, Oct 16 (PTI) - Reports have emerged of a distressing incident at a private engineering college in Bengaluru, where a female student in the seventh semester was allegedly raped by a junior male student inside the men's washroom, according to police statements on Friday.

The accused, who is a fifth-semester student aged 21, was familiar to the victim.

Authorities confirmed that the accused was promptly arrested on charges of rape and subsequently presented before the court, which ordered that he be held in judicial custody.

The complaint, filed by the woman, details that the incident occurred on October 10. She recounted how, during the lunch break, the accused repeatedly called her, requesting that she meet him near the architecture block on the seventh floor.

Upon meeting, he allegedly attempted to initiate physical contact by trying to kiss her.

In her attempt to exit via the lift, he reportedly followed her to the sixth floor. It was there, she alleges, that he dragged her into the men's washroom, locked the door, and committed the assault.

She further claimed that during this horrendous act, the accused seized her phone, preventing her from answering a call from one of her friends.

After the ordeal, she confided in her friends, who supported her in disclosing the events to her parents. Following this, the alleged perpetrator contacted her with inquiries about whether she needed any medical pills, to which she terminated the call.

Initially engulfed in fear and reticence, she ultimately decided to narrate the harrowing experience to her parents, leading to the complaint being lodged at the Hanumanthanagar police station on October 15.

The authorities have filed the case under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as confirmed by the police.
