Rajya Sabha adjourned after Opposition protests over notice dismissals

New Delhi, August 21 (PTI) — The Rajya Sabha's Thursday session was abruptly halted, being adjourned until post-lunch, following a wave of disapproval from Opposition parties over the dismissal of their adjournment notices. After the scheduled documents and reports were presented, Deputy Chairman Harivansh announced that he had received 18 notices pertaining to four different subjects under Rule 267. This rule permits the suspension of the day’s agenda to accommodate urgent discussions. However, he declared that none of the notices conformed to the rule requirements, leading to their rejection. This decision incited protests from several Opposition members, resulting in them expressing their discontent vocally. The House was then adjourned until 2 PM.
