Rajya Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests Over Rejected Notices

New Delhi, Aug 6 (PTI) The Rajya Sabha session faced an adjournment on Wednesday till 2 pm due to protests from Opposition members over the rejection of 35 notices they had submitted concerning various issues. Soon after the session began with an obituary reference and the laying of papers, Deputy Chairman Harivansh informed the House of having received 35 notices from members under Rule 267. However, he dismissed all of them, stating they failed to meet the rule's stipulated requirements. "Following the observations made yesterday, since none of the submitted notices adhere to the rule's past criteria, I am not admitting any of them," Harivansh remarked. The Deputy Chairman appealed to the Opposition to permit the House to proceed with its functioning, emphasizing that members could present their issues during Zero Hour. "I have provided a clear explanation. Many members approached me and emphasized their right to bring up issues during Zero Hour. Allow them to voice their questions during Zero Hour," he asserted. Despite his requests, Opposition members persisted in their protest, prompting the Chair to adjourn the House proceedings until 2 pm.
