Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Urges Preparedness for Prolonged Conflicts

Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), Aug 27 (PTI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the necessity for India's armed forces to be prepared for various security challenges, ranging from brief skirmishes to protracted conflicts lasting up to five years, due to the unpredictable nature of the current geopolitical climate.

Addressing the 'Ran Samvad' event at the Army War College, Singh stressed that while India harbors no territorial ambitions, it stands resolutely ready to defend its own borders at all costs.

"Wars today are sudden and unpredictable, making it difficult to foresee their duration or outcome," Singh remarked. He urged the Indian military to be prepared for contingencies of any duration, from two months to as long as five years.

Singh broadened the scope of national security, asserting that it should involve a "whole-of-nation approach," rather than being relegated solely to the military.

"We do not covet foreign lands, but we will go to any lengths to safeguard our own," he reiterated in a gathering that also included India's senior military leaders such as Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.

He praised the three services for their role in Operation Sindoor, describing it as a standout example of the efficacy of India's indigenous defense platforms, equipment, and weapon systems.

"The operation's achievements underscore the need for self-reliance in our defense sector," Singh said. While acknowledging the strides made towards self-reliance, he noted there is still significant progress to be made.

According to Singh, the success of Operation Sindoor epitomizes the bravery and rapid response of the armed forces against terrorists from Pakistan. "It was a scenario those terrorists could have never imagined," he added.

Singh concluded by highlighting Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of technology-driven warfare.
