Rains continue to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh, red alert issued

A red alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and three districts in Uttrakhand as the rains lash the hill states for the fourth consecutive day.

Several deaths have been reported in the areas due to the continuous downpour that resulted in subsequent landslides and a trail of destruction across north India.

Visuals of bridges collapsing, buildings being swept away by raging rivers and massive mudslides have surfaced online.

Himachal Pradesh is reported to be the worst hit with most parts of the state being inundated due to flash floods.

According to official figures, 31 people have died in Himachal Pradesh so far and public property worth Rs 3000 crores to 4000 crores has been damaged.

The neighbouring Uttrakhand has reported five deaths while Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan each reported one rain-related death.
