Rahul Gandhi slams Modi govt, launches 'white t-shirt movement' for economic justice

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday criticised the Modi government over its economic policies, asserting that true development occurs only when there is inclusive progress, a fair business environment, and rising worker incomes.

In a post on X, Gandhi said, “The truth of Modi Ji's ‘developed India’: Who profits from your hard work? The economy runs on your sweat and blood, but are you getting your fair share? Think about it.” He highlighted that the manufacturing sector's share in the economy has dropped to its lowest level in 60 years, exacerbating unemployment issues.

Gandhi also pointed to agricultural distress, claiming that poor policies have left farmers and labourers struggling to survive. Over the last five years, worker incomes have stagnated or declined, he added.

He criticised the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and income tax systems, calling them burdensome for the poor and middle class while alleging that corporate loans were being written off. Soaring inflation, he said, is forcing even the salaried class to rely on loans for basic needs.

“Real development is when everyone progresses—when businesses have a fair environment, taxes are equitable, and worker incomes increase. Only this will make India prosperous and strong,” Gandhi stated.

Launch of 'White T-shirt Movement'

Gandhi also announced the launch of a 'White T-shirt Movement' to champion economic justice, fight wealth inequalities, and oppose discrimination. Urging people to join, he posted on X, “If you believe in economic justice and social equality, wear white T-shirts and join the movement.”

The Congress party has been critical of the government’s economic policies, accusing it of failing to address rising prices, stagnant wages, and declining private investment, which they claim are burdening common citizens.

This comes amidst ongoing criticism of the Modi government’s handling of inflation and job creation, as the Congress seeks to highlight these issues ahead of key political events.
