Rahul Gandhi tweeted a quote by Mahatma Gandhi after being held guilty of criminal defamation by a court in Surat over a 2019 comment.

'My religion is based on truth and non-violence. Truth is my God, non-violence the means to get it - Mahatma Gandhi,' the Congress leader tweeted.

He has been given a jail sentence of 2 years but has been granted bail to file an appeal. The punishment stands suspended for 30 days.
