Amid tensions over Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar's murder, India has issued a travel warning to its citizens to avoid visiting parts of Canada.
The Canadian government rejected the warning, with Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc saying that "Canada is a safe country".
India's advisory urged citizens to "exercise utmost caution" in view of &ldquo;growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and violence in Canada&rdquo;.
The warning was issued after Canada asked its citizens in India to "observe a high degree of caution".
Earlier, India expelled a top Canadian diplomat following a similar move by Ottawa.
The tensions rose after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau suggested the possibility of the Indian government's involvement in the killing of Nijjar.

UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly called for an expansion of the United Nations Security Council, backing India&rsquo;s bid for a permanent membership of the UN body, along with Brazil, Germany and Japan.
He emphasised that Africa deserves a louder voice on the world stage.
In his opening remarks at the Council on Foreign Relations on Tuesday, Cleverly said, &ldquo;I will summarize by saying that the challenges the world presents us are legion. But we do have the opportunity to make positive progress. We do have the opportunity to get the Sustainable Development Goals back on track.&rdquo;
&ldquo;It is going to mean that we work with our traditional friends and allies, but it also means that we have to give voice to the emerging powers in the world. The UK has encouraged an expansion of the United Nations Security Council for example, we believe that India, Brazil, Germany and Japan should have permanent membership, and Africa really deserves a louder voice on the world stage,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;
Notably, reforms in the global systems have been an issue continuously raised by India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at global fora. During his concluding address at the G20 Leaders Summit in Delhi, PM Modi reiterated his stance of making global systems in accordance with the &ldquo;realities of the present&rdquo; and took the example of the United Nations Security Council.
Further, in his address at the Council on Foreign Relations, Cleverly spoke about his visit to Beijing. He said he spoke with the Chinese government about areas where the two nations &ldquo;have deep, deep disagreements.&rdquo;
He spoke about China&rsquo;s treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority in Xinjiang, their failure to abide by the commitment to freely enter Hong Kong and their &ldquo;aggressive posture&rdquo; across the Taiwan Strait.
Cleverly said he engaged with them on some of the issues, which included economic recovery, after the conference, and how to take benefit from artificial intelligence.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh on Wednesday asked the Union government to clarify its position on Canada&rsquo;s allegations regarding the murder of a Khalistani leader and said the accusations reminded the Sikhs of Operation Blue Star and the 1984 riots.
In a video message, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, called the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau&rsquo;s allegations &ldquo;sensational news&rdquo;.
Canada and India have expelled a senior diplomat each after Trudeau alleged the involvement of &ldquo;agents of the Indian government&rdquo; in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey in June. The claims were rejected by India as &ldquo;absurd&rdquo; and &ldquo;motivated&rdquo;.
&ldquo;This has left the Sikhs living across the world shaken and has reminded them of Operation Blue Star, the 1984 genocide of Sikhs (anti-Sikh riots) and the killing of Sikh youth in Punjab. It has reopened the old wounds,&rdquo; said Singh.
&ldquo;What could be worse than this if Indian agencies were involved in the murder of Nijjar,&rdquo; said the Jathedar.
The Union government should clarify its position on the accusations levelled by the Canadian PM in Parliament, he further said.
The army had carried out Operation Blue Star in June 1984 to flush out hiding militants from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.
The Jathedar&rsquo;s remarks came a day after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee said although the Indian government trashed the Canadian government&rsquo;s accusations and also expelled a Canadian diplomat, the matter is very serious and will affect Sikhs at the global level.&nbsp;

The mother of the 12-year-old girl alleged some policemen manhandled her and her daughter

Students from a private school protested outside a police station in UP's Rampur alleging that a policeman slapped the mother of a former schoolmate and pressured her to withdraw a case of kidnapping and harassing of her daughter.
Taking note of the incident, the district administration has removed a Circle Officer, Station House Officer of Milak Police Station along with two constables while the accused outpost in charge has been suspended, officials said.
The agitation near the police station caused a massive traffic jam.
The mother of the 12-year-old girl alleged some policemen, including outpost in-charge Ashok Kumar, reached her house on Tuesday and manhandled her and her daughter.
"He (policeman) slapped me two-three times and my clothes got torn," she said, adding that their family was being pressured to withdraw the case.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Sansar Singh said that the woman on Tuesday registered a case against two teenagers under IPC sections 354 (criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 363 (kidnapping) after the accused allegedly took her daughter forcibly on their bike.
He said that both the accused have been detained and a detailed probe is on in the matter.
"We have removed the SHO, Circle Officer, and two constables while the police outpost in-charge Ashok Kumar has been suspended," he said.
The additional district magistrate will probe the matter and if it is found that the woman was manhandled, FIRs will be registered against the guilty, he said.&nbsp;

Punjab gangster Sukha Duneke has been killed in Canada's Winnipeg in a gang war, according to multiple media reports.&nbsp;
Duneke was believed to be associated with Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla.&nbsp;
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between India and Canada due to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.&nbsp;
The killing of the Canada-based gangster, who had at least 18 cases against him including those for murder, attempt to murder and robbery, took place on Wednesday night Canada time, the sources said.
Hailing from Duneke Kalan village in Punjab's Moga district, the gangster fled to Canada in December 2017, official sources said.
An active member of the Davinder Bambiha gang, Duneke was closely associated with Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dalla, gangster Lucky Patial, Malaysia-based gangster Jackpal Singh alias Lali and other criminals.
The dreaded gangster was managing the activities of the gang from foreign soil and was also involved in running an extortion racket targeted killings of rival gang members in Punjab and neighbouring areas through his local contacts and managing the network of his foreign-based associates, the sources said.
In the last few months, the number of extortion calls made by Duneke had increased considerably in Punjab and neighbouring areas, they added.
In January, two of Duneke's associates -- Kulwinder Singh alias Kinda and Paramjeet Singh Pamma -- were arrested by the counter-intelligence wing (Bathinda) and three pistols and cartridges seized from their possession.
The two men were part of the extortion racket run by Duneke.
After his father died in 1990, Duneke got a peon's job at the Moga deputy commissioner's office on compassionate ground. During the eight years he continued with the job, he became addicted to drugs, the sources said.
A lookout circular was issued against Duneke in 2022.
His name had also figured in connection with the killing of international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian in March last year. He was accused of arranging the shooters for the killing.
Duneke's name also cropped up following the killing of two rival gang members -- Manpreet Singh and Vicky Singh -- by the shooters of the Bambiha gang in January 2022.

A Delhi court Wednesday acquitted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the killing of a person during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, giving him the &ldquo;benefit of doubt&rdquo;.
Special Judge Geetanjli Goel also acquitted two other accused -- Ved Prakash Pial and Brahmanand Gupta -- holding that the prosecution failed to prove the case of murder and rioting against them. A Sikh man Surjit Singh was killed during the incident in Sultanpuri.
&ldquo;The accused Sajjan Kumar is given the benefit of the doubt and acquitted for the offence&rdquo; the judge said.
Kumar was accused of various offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc. (Section 153A), abetment of any offence (Section 109), murder (Section 302) and rioting (147).
The riots had broken out after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984.
Kumar is currently lodged in Tihar jail after a conviction in another case related to the riots.&nbsp;

15 farmer suicides reported in Maharashtra's Yavatmal in September

A local farmer activist said in a statement that six farmers killed themselves in parts of Yavatmal district between September 17 and 19.&nbsp;

Fifteen farmers have ended their lives in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra so far this month, an official said on Wednesday.
However, the reasons behind the farmers' death are being probed, he said.
Yavatmal district is located in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra.
Talking to PTI, a senior official from the Yavatmal district collectorate said, "Fifteen farmers have committed suicide in Yavatmal in September. The police and the revenue department are conducting a probe to know whether they took the extreme step due to farm-distress or any other reason like family disputes." Meanwhile, activist Kishore Tiwari, former chairman of the Maharashtra government's Vasantrao Naik Shetkari Swavlambi Mission for farmers' welfare, said in a statement that six farmers killed themselves in parts of Yavatmal district between September 17 and 19.&nbsp;

Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing: Five eye allies divided over support for Canada’s allegations, say report 

Canada's 'Five eye' allies -- consisting of US, UK, Australia and New Zealand -- reportedly refused to take sides on Ottawa's new row with India.

A day after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India&rsquo;s involvement in the killing of a prominent Sikh separatist leader, the Canadian media reported that Ottawa&rsquo;s Five Eye allies were not keen on taking sides though they have said that the claims should be thoroughly probed.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and one of India's most-wanted terrorists who carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen outside a gurdwara in Surrey in the western Canadian province of British Columbia on June 18.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau told the House of Commons on Monday that he waited until he was able to raise the issue with allies and with India&rsquo;s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi earlier this month before telling the public about the possible link.
India has dismissed Trudeau's allegation as &ldquo;absurd and baseless.&rdquo; &ldquo;We wanted to make sure that we had a solid grounding in understanding what was going on in analysis and indeed in facts. We wanted to make sure we were taking the time to talk with our allies, to share what we knew,&rdquo; the Canadian Press news agency quoted Trudeau on Tuesday.
Canada is part of a &lsquo;Five Eyes&rsquo; network which is an intelligence alliance consisting of the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
Trudeau has also said he does not want to make things worse for relations with India. "We are not looking to provoke or escalate. We are simply laying out the facts as we understand them, and we want to work with the government of India to lay everything clear." According to a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Canada&rsquo;s other Five Eyes allies &ldquo;showed little inclination Tuesday to wade into an escalating row between Ottawa and New Delhi over allegations." Most opted to treat the allegation as a matter still to be investigated &mdash; in spite of the fact that the Trudeau government feels it has enough information to make an accusation in Parliament and expel a diplomat, it noted.
The United States, United Kingdom and Australia have all issued statements calling for the allegations to be thoroughly probed. Terming the US National Security Council (NSC) spokesperson Adm John Kirby as &ldquo;perhaps the most supportive of Canada,&rdquo; the CBC report said that Kirby &ldquo;urged India to participate and cooperate in that investigation&rdquo; as &ldquo;it is important to find out exactly what happened.&rdquo; Kirby, who is also the NSC coordinator for Strategic Communications, said in an interview with CNN: &ldquo;I&rsquo;m going to protect diplomatic conversations and I&rsquo;ll leave it at that. Certainly, the President (Trudeau) is mindful of these serious allegations, and they are very serious. And we support Canada&rsquo;s efforts to investigate this.&rdquo; &ldquo;We believe a fully transparent comprehensive investigation is the right approach so that we can all know exactly what happened and of course, we encourage India to cooperate with that,&rdquo; Kirby said.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese refused to comment on the matter at all even as Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong told a press conference in the UN Headquarters on Tuesday that &ldquo;these are concerning reports, and I note that investigations are still underway&rdquo; and that &ldquo;We are monitoring these developments closely with our partners, and we'll continue to do so.&rdquo; Another of the allies, UK made no official announcement but its Foreign Secretary James Cleverly put out a tweet on platform X without any mention of India, the CBC report said.
&ldquo;All countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law. We are in regular contact with our Canadian partners about serious allegations raised in the Canadian Parliament. Important that Canada's investigation runs its course and the perpetrators brought to justice,&rdquo; read Cleverly&rsquo;s tweet.
On September 18, Trudeau alleged in the Parliament that Canada&rsquo;s national security apparatus has reason to believe that &ldquo;agents of the Indian government&rdquo; had carried out the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.
Meanwhile, within Canada, Liberal Party members also say they hope to maintain normal ties with a country Ottawa has selected as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific, The Canadian Press reported.
Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre said Trudeau must share more information about what led him to make the statement in Parliament. He said the prime minister did not share more details with him than what he had said in the House of Commons.
"We need to see more facts. The prime minister hasn't provided any facts," he told reporters on Tuesday. New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh has written to the newly appointed head of the public inquiry on foreign interference, asking Justice Marie-Josee Hogue to include India in her probe. The Liberals have suggested her terms are wide enough to include any country as well as the Nijjar case.
"In my experience, as a Sikh-Canadian, there have always been suspicions that India was interfering in the democratic rights of Canadians," Singh wrote in the letter.
"Yesterday&rsquo;s announcement by the prime minister confirms that these suspicions are valid," he said.
Canada's Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan said he hopes Ottawa can maintain normal relations with New Delhi despite the incident.
"Right now, we're hopeful that the Indian government cooperates with the investigation. When it comes to all the other relationships that we have, we look forward to continuing as normal," he said.
Sajjan, who is Sikh, pushed back on the Indian government's contention that Sikh extremists have senior roles in Trudeau's government. "India's been making those accusations for a very long time," he said, encouraging reporters to "draw your own conclusions," Singh was quoted as saying.
Treasury Board President Anita Anand, the first Hindu person to become a federal cabinet minister, said it's "a very difficult time" for South Asians of any religion, noting her parents are from India.
She urged people to "be prudent" and remain calm.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill granting reservation to women on one-third of seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies with near unanimity amid demands from the opposition to extend similar benefits to Other Backward Classes and immediate implementation of the measure before the elections next year.
After a spirited eight-hour debate in which 60 members participated, the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill, with 454 members voting in favour and two against it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited US President Joe Biden to be the Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said on Wednesday.
Asked whether the Quad summit is being planned in India around the same time, Garcetti indicated that he was not aware of it. The Quad comprises India, the US, Japan and Australia. It is India's turn to host the annual Quad summit next year.
The US ambassador was asked at an event about the reports that India is considering inviting leaders of the Quad nations to grace the Republic Day celebrations.
US President Biden was invited to the Republic Day celebrations by Prime Minister Modi during the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Garcetti said.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was the chief guest at this year's Republic Day celebrations.
Every year, India invites world leaders to attend its Republic Day celebrations. There was no Republic Day Chief guest in 2021 and 2022 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, the then Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest.
In 2019, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was the chief guest at the parade, while in 2018, leaders of all 10 ASEAN countries attended the celebrations.
In 2017, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at the celebrations while then-French President Francois Hollande graced the occasion in 2016.
In 2015, the then-US President Barack Obama watched the parade.
In 2014, the then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was the chief guest at the celebrations, while Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck attended the parade in 2013.
Other heads of state and government who have attended the Republic Day celebrations include Nicolas Sarkozy, Vladimir Putin, Nelson Mandela, John Major, Mohammed Khatami and Jacques Chirac.
The then British Prime Minister John Major had attended the celebrations in 1993, Nelson Mandela participated as then South African President in 1995 while South Korean President President Lee Myung Bak witnessed the parade in 2010.&nbsp;
