New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) - Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his birth anniversary.

They honored him for his humility, wisdom, and significant role in shaping a robust economy.

Kharge, in a post on X, recalled Singh's contributions to nation-building, describing him as a gentle architect of India's economic transformation.

"A man of humility and wisdom, he carried himself with quiet dignity, letting his actions speak louder than his words. His vision of economic reforms opened new doors of opportunity, creating a thriving middle class and lifting countless families out of poverty," expressed the Congress chief.

Kharge emphasized Singh's dedication to fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that growth coincided with compassion through welfare measures impacting millions.

"His leadership showed us that integrity in public life is not just possible, but powerful," Kharge remarked in his post.

"For generations of Indians, he will remain an enduring symbol of honesty, intellect, and selfless service to the nation. His legacy will live on in the aspirations of a stronger, more inclusive India. Our humble homage on his birth anniversary," Kharge stated.

Rahul Gandhi, in a separate post on X, shared his respects to Dr. Manmohan Singh, acknowledging his commitment to nation-building and the bold decisions he made for the marginalized, which contributed to strengthening the economy.

"His simplicity, humility, and honesty are a source of inspiration for all of us," Gandhi added.

Singh served as India's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leading the Congress-led UPA government, and is revered as the architect of economic reforms in the country.

As finance minister under P V Narasimha Rao's government from 1991 to 1996, Singh initiated large-scale economic reforms, reducing state control over the economy.

Born in 1932 in Gah, Punjab, now part of Pakistan, Singh ascended from humble beginnings to become a distinguished economist, later entering public life.

He passed away in December last year.
