PVN Madhav becomes BJP Andhra Pradesh president, replacing D Purandeswari. Madhav aims to enhance BJP's presence, promising to double existing seats.

PVN Madhav Appointed as BJP Andhra Pradesh President

Amaravati, July 1 (PTI) - Senior BJP leader PVN Madhav has officially taken charge as the president of the BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit, replacing D Purandeswari. Elected unanimously, the announcement was made by BJP leader and Bengaluru MP PC Mohan, who oversaw the election process. The party release noted that Madhav received his election certificate, marking the close of D Purandeswari's two-year term as the state party president.

Madhav stood as the sole nominee when nominations were filed, making his victory an anticipated outcome. Reflecting on his family’s long-standing association with the BJP, Madhav spoke of being dedicated to the party since childhood, invoking memories of his father's dedication to the cause. "I was born during the Emergency. Fifty years later, I’ve been elected as BJP's Andhra Pradesh President. Under Purandeswari’s leadership, we secured eight MLAs and three MPs in the 2024 elections. I am committed to doubling these numbers in the upcoming elections," stated Madhav, addressing the party cadre.

He expressed a strong sense of pride in ascending to the role during the RSS's centenary and committed himself to strengthening the BJP's presence in Andhra Pradesh. With gratitude towards leaders like Purandeswari and Somu Veerraju, Madhav promised to further Prime Minister Modi's vision of development across the state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Madhav on his appointment, underlining the significance of the NDA for Andhra Pradesh’s inclusive and stable development. "Let's work collaboratively towards the state’s development with cooperation among the three alliance parties (TDP-JSP-BJP)," Naidu expressed on X.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also extended his congratulations to Madhav for becoming the BJP state president. "A nationalist leader from his youth, Madhav has raised significant issues in the Legislative Council. Now, as BJP President, I believe he will embody the spirit of the NDA alliance," Kalyan stated in a release.

Madhav’s political career began in 2003 with Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing. As the state vice president of BJYM from 2003 to 2007, he spearheaded various events aimed at bolstering the youth wing’s strength. He later served as BJYM state general secretary from 2007 to 2010 and as national secretary from 2010 to 2013.

In the 2009 general elections, Madhav contested for the Visakhapatnam North MLA position but was unsuccessful, eventually becoming an MLC. Between 2017 and 2023, he was elected as Andhra Pradesh's graduates' constituency MLC, representing the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.
