Punjab transparency panel directs ADCs to ensure timely delivery of services

In a key meeting aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability, Punjab Transparency and Accountability Commission Chief Commissioner V.K. Janjua convened a session with Additional Deputy Commissioners (General) (ADCs) from across the state to review the timely delivery of government services under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability Act. PBTRAC Secretary Dr. Nayan Jassal was also present.

ADCs to Enforce Accountability

Highlighting the pivotal role of ADCs as Appellate Authorities, Janjua stressed that citizens have the right to file appeals against delays or refusals of services, and ADCs can even take suo-motu action against erring officials. He reminded officers that they have the power to impose fines of up to ₹5,000 on officials responsible for delaying public services.

Action Plan for Transparency

A PowerPoint presentation detailed how ADCs can enhance efficiency in service delivery at the district level. Key directives issued during the meeting included:

Mandatory monthly reports from ADCs to the Commission on service pendency in their districts.
Strict action reports detailing penalties imposed on officials failing to meet service timelines.
Public awareness drives at Sewa Kendras, with display boards listing available services, designated officials, and appellate officers to ensure citizens know their rights.

Strengthening Governance
The Punjab government’s renewed focus on transparency and efficiency aims to make public service delivery more responsive and accountable. The meeting served as a firm reminder to officials that delays will not be tolerated, reinforcing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision for a more efficient Punjab.
