Punjab Police cracks down on human trafficking racket, FIRs filed against fraudulent agents

The Punjab Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has launched a significant crackdown on fraudulent immigration consultants involved in human trafficking, targeting those exploiting individuals with false promises of illegal entry into the United States.

This action follows the recent deportation of Indian citizens from the U.S. who arrived in Amritsar. The Punjab Police has recorded statements from these deportees, revealing details about travel agents who deceived them with misleading assurances.

Based on complaints from victims, the police have registered eight First Information Reports (FIRs)—two at district police stations and six under the NRI Affairs Wing—against the implicated travel agents.

The SIT, led by ADGP NRI Affairs Praveen Sinha, includes ADGP Internal Security Shive Kumar Verma, IGP Provisioning Dr. S Boopathi, and DIG Border Range Satinder Singh. The team is actively overseeing the investigation to ensure a thorough and lawful process.

Senior police officials have personally engaged with the returnees, addressing their concerns and assuring them of legal recourse.

To bring the offenders to justice, Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across multiple districts and commissionerates are working in close coordination with the SIT.

DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling fraudulent immigration networks and protecting individuals from exploitation. He assured that the SIT remains dedicated to holding human traffickers accountable.

The Punjab Police has urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious immigration activities, reaffirming their dedication to safeguarding the rights of people and preventing further exploitation.
