Continuing its commitment to employment generation under Mission Rozgar, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday distributed appointment letters to 497 youth for government jobs.
With this, the state government has now provided employment to 50,892 individuals over the past three years, bringing economic stability to thousands of families.
During the ceremony at Municipal Bhawan, the Chief Minister handed over appointment letters to candidates selected in various departments, including Water Supply and Sanitation, School Education, Higher Education and Languages, Rural Development, and Science, Technology, and Environment.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that these young recruits were now part of the Punjab government’s workforce and would play a key role in the state’s socio-economic progress.
“For the first time in Punjab’s history, any government has given a record number of 50,892 jobs to the youth in 35 months of coming into power,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that all job appointments had been made purely on merit, free from corruption or favoritism. He criticized opposition parties for their baseless allegations, stating, “The opposition parties make hue and cry over the jobs just because they were suffering from ‘selective blindness’ as they never see these youth who get employment… they had never given any single job to the youth during their tenure.”
He further added that past governments only reserved jobs for their close associates while ignoring the common people.
Mann reassured that his government promptly fills vacant positions across departments, following a transparent recruitment system.
“A foolproof mechanism has been adopted for the entire recruitment process due to which not even a single appointment out of these nearly 50,000 jobs has been challenged so far in any court,” he noted, expressing pride in the administration’s fair approach.
Touching upon the growing issue of illegal immigration, the Chief Minister urged Punjab’s youth to explore career opportunities within the state rather than seeking uncertain prospects abroad. He cited the recent deportations of Punjabi youth from the USA as a learning experience and encouraged them to take advantage of the many employment opportunities being created within Punjab.
“More than 51,000 youth have got government jobs in the state through hard work, dedication, and commitment,” he remarked.
Mann further pointed out the trend of reverse migration, stating that several young professionals who had settled abroad were now returning to Punjab due to promising career prospects in the government sector. “In today’s function also, a couple has returned back from Canada to join government service here, and similarly, a young man dropped the idea of going abroad as he has got the job here,” he shared.
The Chief Minister described this employment initiative as a historic milestone that would shape the future of Punjab’s youth. He emphasized that many such recruitment events had taken place at this venue, reflecting the government’s steadfast commitment to youth empowerment and employment generation.
Congratulating the newly appointed candidates, Mann encouraged them to serve the public with dedication and integrity. “Now you have become an integral part of the government, and you should serve the people with a missionary zeal,” he urged, adding that they should utilize their position to uplift underprivileged sections of society.
On the occasion, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains welcomed the new recruits and other dignitaries.
Among those present at the event were Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, Secretary Education KK Yadav, Secretary Environment Priyank Bharti, and several other senior officials.
