Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann urged the state's youth to learn from the recent deportation of illegal migrants from the USA.
He called on them to abandon the idea of migrating abroad through illegal means and instead focus on working hard within Punjab to make the state a frontrunner in the country.
Speaking at a sports tournament, the Chief Minister emphasized the blessings of being born on Punjab’s fertile land. However, he expressed concern over the failure of past governments, which had left the youth with no option but to seek opportunities abroad.
"The mass deportation from the US is an eye-opener for all of us. Now, we should not move abroad illegally, but rather work towards the socio-economic development of the state," he said.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted the state government’s efforts, having provided over 50,000 government jobs to the youth based solely on merit. He noted that this is the first time in Punjab’s history such a large number of jobs has been offered in just three years.
"This trend will continue, with a significant number of jobs in the pipeline," he assured.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the state is seeing a reverse migration, with youth returning from abroad to take up government positions. He credited the transparent recruitment process for increasing trust in state jobs, noting that educational institutions in Punjab are now witnessing a surge in admissions.
In terms of law enforcement, the Chief Minister stated that to enhance the efficiency of Punjab Police, the state government has decided to recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors annually.
He mentioned that around 2.5 lakh candidates are expected to apply for these posts each year, encouraging aspirants to focus on both academic and physical preparation for the tests. Additionally, he announced plans to recruit 10,000 new police officers, with the notification already issued.
Reaffirming his position against traditional political parties, the Chief Minister said, "These leaders are envious of me because I come from a common family. They believed they had the divine right to rule, but the people are no longer swayed by their misleading propaganda."
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also touched on the significance of promoting sports as part of the government's fight against drug abuse. He said, "Encouraging sports culture is one of the most effective tools in the state's crusade against drugs. Youth engaged in sports have no time for drugs as they channel their energy into excelling."
He further emphasized the importance of the "Khedan Watan Punjab Dian," an annual event organized by the state government to provide a platform for young players to showcase their talents. These events help identify strengths and weaknesses, preparing athletes for future national and international competitions. "We are leaving no stone unturned to popularize sports in Punjab, as it plays a vital role in the state’s progress," he added.
Congratulating the organizing committee for the success of the tournament, the Chief Minister noted that such events were not held during previous governments. "But now, after the AAP government took charge, people are enjoying such events. This is a glimpse of Rangla Punjab."
Additionally, he announced grants exceeding Rs 1 crore to fund local development projects in the village, including the construction of an Aam Aadmi Clinic, solar lights, a community hall, and a water treatment plant.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh and other prominent officials were also present at the event.
