Pune, Jul 3 (PTI) - An alarming incident unfolded in Pune when a 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified man who deceitfully entered her apartment by pretending to be a courier delivery executive, according to police reports disclosed on Thursday.

The accused, in a further act of intimidation, captured a selfie on the victim's phone and left a threatening message warning her against reporting the crime. He menaced that he possessed her photos and would disseminate them on social media if informed authorities, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde.

The disturbing event occurred around 7:30 pm on Wednesday, within a housing society in Pune's Kondhwa area, igniting a rigorous search for the perpetrator, as per officials.

Reportedly, the victim, employed in a private firm, was alone in her residence while her brother was away from town, police noted.

Explaining the sequence of events, officials recounted how the man, posing as a delivery agent, requested a pen ostensibly for signing a document. As the victim turned to retrieve it, he entered forcibly and secured the door behind him.

"The woman does not remember anything further as she regained consciousness around 8:30 pm. She then reached out to her relatives, and the police were subsequently alerted," Shinde narrated.

The accused had left a menacing message on her phone, asserting he had taken photos of her and threatened to make them viral if she disclosed the incident, authorities conveyed.

There remains a potentiality that the perpetrator utilized a substance to render her unconscious, with police actively verifying if any spray or such means were employed, Shinde added.

The man was reportedly caught on CCTV footage from the vicinity, and efforts to trace him are underway, the official iterated.

A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64 (punishment for rape), 77 (voyeurism), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), as noted by the police.
