In West Bengal's Howrah, protestors clashed with the police for the second day on Saturday. As the situation remained tense, the police extended the curfew imposed in some parts of Howrah until June 15 as precautionary measures.

The West Bengal Chief Minsiter has laid the blame for the flare-up on BJP's shoulders. Taking to Twitter, Mamata Banerjee said that 'some political parties' were behind the Howrah violence' and that strict action would be taken against 'those trying to instigate riots'.

She also asked why should common people suffer because of sin committed by the BJP.

Meanwhile BJP's West Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar was arrested on Saturday afternoon when he tried to visit violence-hit Howrah district.

India has been in the throes of protest since the now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made certain remarks about Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate.
