New Delhi, September 5 (PTI) — Professor V S Negi from the National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF) has been elected as the president of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA), receiving 3,366 votes.

He triumphed over Professor Rajib Ray from the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) who garnered 2,728 votes, and Professor Rajesh K Jha from the Academics for Action and Development Delhi Teachers’ Association (AADTA), who secured 1,420 votes.

Other contenders in the race included Professor Kamlesh Kr Raghuvanshi with 451 votes, Sandeep with 14 votes, and Professor Sanjay Mohan Marale with 10 votes.

Of the 8,221 votes cast, 7,989 were declared valid, while 232 were invalid.

The DUTA elections saw enthusiastic participation, with 8,221 of the 9,861 eligible teachers showing up to vote, marking an 84 percent turnout, slightly lower than last year's 85.85 percent.

The polling took place on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. across 32 booths located in the Arts Faculty and Satyakam Bhawan.

The election also filled 15 executive member positions out of 25 candidates.

Akanksha Khurana topped the list by securing 9,576 votes, followed by Ramanand Singh with 9,192 votes and Manish Kumar with 7,372 votes. Other successful candidates include Sakshi Yadav (6,612 votes), Dinesh Kataria (6,439), Amit Singh (6,388), Bimalendu (6,081), Sanjay Kumar (5,862), Biswajit Mohanty (5,658), Chhotu Ram Meena (5,632), Bhupendra Singh (5,338), Yash Yadav (5,283), V S Dixit (5,238), Devendra K. The biennial DUTA elections hold significant sway in shaping Delhi University’s policies and academic trajectory.

This year’s campaign concentrated on themes such as permanent appointments, the regularization of ad-hoc teachers, the enactment of the National Education Policy, and various academic reforms.

Outside the polling stations, supporters were seen distributing pamphlets and urging faculty members to cast their votes, while groups of teachers passionately discussed pressing election issues.

In 2023, Professor Ajay Kumar Bhagi of the NDTF was elected DUTA president.
