Samajwadi party rally: Akhilesh says march halted by government; UP CM cites permission

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's march with his party legislators highlighting the issues in Uttar Pradesh before the Monsoon Session of the state legislature was halted by state police on Monday.

Following this, Yadav began a sit in protest and alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led state government has been a total failure. It does not want to face the concerns being raised through the mega rally.

On the other hand, while speaking to media ahead of the state's Monsoon session, Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, "There is no harm if any party asks their questions in a democratic way. Samajwadi Party should take permission for any procession which should not harm anyone. Following laws & order is too much of an expectation from Samajwadi Party leaders", he added.

The march was scheduled to pass through Raj Bhavan and Gandhi statue located near the General Post Office before culminating at the Vidhan Bhavan.
