As many as six people died due to suffocation while two others were injured after a fire broke out in a house at Mazar Wala Road, Machhi Market, Shastri Park, informed police officials on Friday. Police rushed to the spot and found that the injured had been taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
"Six people in a family were found dead in their house in the Shastri Park area after they inhaled carbon monoxide produced from the burning Mosquito coil that had fallen over a mattress sometime during the night. The toxic fumes caused inmates to lose consciousness and later died due to suffocation," said DCP North East district Joy Tirkey.
According to the DCP, the injured are being treated for burn injuries. "The deceased include four adult males, an adult female and a half-year-old child. The injured include a 15-year-old girl and an adult male," said Joy Tirkey. Further investigation is underway and details are awaited.

The SP further said that the Dutch tourist and the local person were shifted to the hospital for treatment.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Nidhin Valsan, "A resort staffer trespassed into the rented tent of the complainant, when she started to scream for help, one local person came to rescue her from the accused and seeing his presence, the accused ran away. After that the accused returned with a knife, assaulted the local person, further assaulted the complainant, and fled away from the spot."
The SP further said that the Dutch tourist and the local person were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
"The knife used for the commission of the crime has been recovered. FIR has been registered under section 452,354,307,506(II) of IPC," said Nidhin Valsan.

"The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," Collector Ilayaraja T said.&nbsp;
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced ₹5 lakh exgratia to the kin of the deceased while ₹50,000 to the injured. The exgratia of ₹2 lakh will also be given through the Prime Minister Relief Fund.

The man's motorcycle suddenly entered Singh's cavalcade and was hit by the SUV in which the Congress leader was travelling, eye witnesses said.

&nbsp;A 20-year-old man was injured when his motorcycle was hit by an SUV carrying senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district, police said.
The accident took place in Zirapur town, an official said.
The man's motorcycle suddenly entered Singh's cavalcade and was hit by the SUV in which the Congress leader was travelling, eye witnesses said.
Singh got down and rushed the injured man, identified as Rambabu Bagri (20), to a local hospital and after the primary treatment got him shifted to Bhopal, sources close to the Congress leader said.
Further probe was on, said Zirapur police station in-charge Mukesh Goud.
Later, talking to reporters, Singh said his vehicle was moving slowly. &ldquo;Thank God, he did not suffer serious injuries and I got him referred to Bhopal,&rdquo; he said.
After reaching Bhopal at night, Singh visited the Chirayu Hospital and Medical College to meet the injured man, sources added.&nbsp;

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and taken stock of the situation in the state where violence broke out between two groups when a Ram Navami procession was taken out in Howrah city on Thursday evening, top sources said on Friday.
In the telephonic conversation with Bose, the Home Minister took detailed information of the incident that led to violence in Howrah city, where several vehicles were torched and shops were ransacked on Thursday evening.
Shah took information about the current situation in the city during a conversation with the West Bengal Governor. State Police has said a number of people were detained in this connection with the violence that reportedly erupted when the Ram Navami procession was passing through the Kazipara locality in Howrah city.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has assured strict action against the perpetrators of the violence and said that the use of unauthorised routes led to the clash.

Maharashtra reported a 63 percent jump in its daily Covid-19 cases with 694 new infections, the highest since October last year.
According to a state health department bulletin, no Covid-related deaths were reported in a day. The fatality rate stands at 1.82 percent in the state.
Amid concerns over a fresh spike of Covid cases and H3N2 influenza cases in the country, India saw over a 40 percent rise in the daily tally with 3,016 new infections in the last 24 hours on Thursday - the highest daily in nearly six months.&nbsp;

Some of the steps being taken by Beijing along the India-China border have been provocative, a top White House official has said while reiterating that the United States is destined to work more closely with New Delhi Kurt Campbell, the Deputy Assistant to the US President and Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific, told a Washington-based think-tank that India is not an ally of the United States and will never be so.
"But it does not mean that we will not be close partners and share many things. That's how we need to understand the role that India will play as a great nation on the global stage.
"We want to encourage that and support that and deepen this relationship, which is already very strong, probably the strongest people-to-people relationship of any country that the United States has on the global stage," he said.
The think tank -- Centre for a New American Security -- in a report said that the India-China border intrusions and clashes have become more frequent and threaten to lead to all-out conflict.
The increased prospect of India-China border hostility has implications for the United States and its Indo-Pacific strategy between the two Asian giants, it said.
The report said that Indian officials believe China is trying to contain India by forcing it to divert more resources into defending simultaneously both its western border with Pakistan and eastern flank with China and by weakening its willingness and ability to challenge Chinese ambitions to dominate the region.
Campbell told the think-tank, "Some of the steps that China has taken along this vast 5,000-mile border had been provocative and deeply concerning to Indian partners and friends." The think tank's report, authored by Lisa Curtis and Derek Grossman, has made several recommendations to help deter and respond to further Chinese aggression along the border with India.

The slab constructed on top of an ancient 'bawdi' or stepwell had collapsed during a 'havan' programme held on the occasion of Ram Navami at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple located in Patel Nagar area here on Thursday.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was registered on Friday against two members of the trust of the Indore temple where a floor cave-in a day earlier hurtled devotees into a stepwell, killing 36 persons, a police official said.
