'Not absconding,' says Shrikant Tyagi as he moves surrender plea: Reports

Self-proclaimed BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi, who has been booked for assaulting a woman at a society in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, on Monday moved a surrender application in court saying he was not absconding after the police announced a bounty of Rs 25,000 for his arrest.

Tyagi's lawyers, as per media reports, urged for his judicial custody instead of police custody affirming that their client was ready to cooperate.

Media reports say that the court will hear the surrender plea on August 10.

Earlier in the day, the UP government bulldozed extended portions of Tyagi’s house in the Noida society.

An FIR filed against Tyagi on August 5 after a video of him abusing and assaulting a woman from his society went viral on social media.

The woman had objected to Tyagi planting some trees in the society's common area, citing violation of rules. He claimed he was within his rights to do so.
