'New Maafiveer': Congress mocks Vivek Agnihotri after he apologises to Delhi High Court

A Congress leader mocked film-maker Vivek Agnihotri after the latter apologised to the Delhi High Court on 6 December.

Congress' Supriya Shrinate tweeted on the case without naming the director of 'The Kashmir Files'. Shrinate said that there was a new 'maafiveer', and he had lied in court about deleting his contentious tweets. She said that a film called 'Maafi Files' should be made now.

Agnihotri had apologised to the High Court for criticising Justice S Muralidhar for granting bail to activist Gautam Navlakha in the Bhima Koregaon case. The director had accused the judge of bias.

Agnihotri apologised to the court via an affidavit, but the judges asked the film-maker to appear in person. The court asked, "Does he have any difficulty if he has to express remorse in person? The remorse cannot always be expressed by way of an affidavit."

Agnihotri's lawyer said he will be present in court for the next hearing in March 2023.

The issue of deletion of the contentious tweets was also discussed in court.

While Agnihotri's lawyer claimed that 'The Kashmir Files' director had deleted the tweets himself, the amicus curiae said that Twitter had submitted in court that the tweets were removed by the company.

However, the court did not delve deeper into the matter.
