Punjab Police has blamed rumour mongers based in United Kingdom, United States and Canada for spreading fake news on social media regarding absconding Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh.
"A few people sitting in UK, USA, and Canada are spreading false news on social media that Amritpal is being tortured, it is our appeal that people must not believe the fake information about his arrest. Whenever an arrest will be made, information will be given by police through a press conference&rdquo;, Gulneet Khurana, SSP Bathinda, told news agency ANI on 25 March.

Wayanad on Saturday witnessed strong protests, including the burning of an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Congress workers and its youth and student wings, over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as an MP who represented the constituency.
Congress leaders, including MLA T Siddique, who were part of the protest march to the office of BSNL in Kalpetta in Wayanad, were by force removed from the site and carried away by the police to their bus.
Besides them, several Youth Congress (YC) and KSU leaders were also arrested and removed from the protest site.
The leaders and workers of the party and its youth and student wings, after marching to the BSNL office had sat down on the road in front of it, which led to the blocking of traffic movement, according to visuals aired on TV channels.
Some YC workers were also seen climbing over police barricades into the BSNL office compound.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed on Saturday that he has been disqualified from the Lok Sabha because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scared of his next speech on the Adani issue and alleged that the "whole game" was to distract people from the panic that the government was feeling over the matter.
At his first press conference after being disqualified from the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said he will keep asking questions on the issue involving industrialist Gautam Adani's business empire and will not be scared by disqualification or being put in jail.
The former Congress chief was flanked at the press meet by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel and party general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal.
Gandhi said the moot question remains that who invested Rs 20,000 crore in Adani shell firms and he will keep asking that question.

He also said attacks are being made on democracy in the country and examples of it keep manifesting from time to time.
Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, nearly 24 hours after a court in Gujarat's Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case, an action the Congress slammed as the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) "vindictive politics" and vowed to fight against it legally and politically.
The BJP dismissed the charge and termed Gandhi's disqualification "lawful".
The disqualification from the Lok Sabha will bar Gandhi (52), a four-time MP, from contesting polls for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi on Saturday in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, after skipping three previous dates, officials said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in Delhi on Saturday in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, after skipping three previous dates, officials said.
The CBI had given an assurance to the Delhi High Court last week that it would not arrest Yadav this month. According to the RJD leader's counsel, Maninder Singh, Yadav had conveyed to the federal agency that he would require some time to appear before its sleuths as the ongoing Bihar Assembly session is scheduled to conclude on April 5.

The CBI's investigation against the Yadav family and others is part of its ongoing probe into documents and evidence that surfaced after the first chargesheet was submitted and also into the alleged roles of the accused that could not be completed by the time the initial report was filed, according to officials.
The officials also said the fresh round of questioning of the accused is taking place as part of the "further investigation" based on fresh inputs gathered during the agency's ongoing probe.
The CBI has alleged that during Lalu Prasad's tenure as the railway minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2009, favourite candidates were appointed in the railways in violation of norms and procedures, without any advertisement or public notice. The agency has claimed that substitutes from Patna were appointed in various zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur.
As a quid pro quo, the candidates, either directly or through their immediate family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad's family members at highly-discounted rates.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People's Party president Conrad K Sangma on Saturday filed his nomination papers from South Tura assembly constituency in West Garo Hills district.
Sangma, who was accompanied by hundreds of NPP supporters to the office of the returning officer of the district, exuded confidence that his party will have the "single-largest majority" in the upcoming polls to the 60-member assembly.
He is seeking re-election from South Tura assembly seat in the February 27 elections.
&ldquo;The NPP will have the single-largest majority. We are confident and moving ahead with the development works undertaken in the last five years.
"The foundation has been laid in various sectors, and it is time to take things to the next level. The continuity is important so that we achieve goals that we have set,&rdquo; he told reporters.

Amid rising cases of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza, the government is planning a nationwide mock drill on April 10 and 11 to take stock of hospital preparedness.

The Health Ministry has directed all states to maintain an optimum level of testing for Covid-19 amid a spike in coronavirus cases in the country since mid-February.
In a fresh set of guidelines released on Saturday, the government has advised states to keep a close watch on the evolving causes of seasonal influenza cases as both the flu and Covid-19 have similar symptoms.
The government also flagged insufficient Covid-19 testing in some states.

State chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, B S Yediyurappa were also present in the rally.

"Karnataka has seen a long period of opportunistic and selfish coalition governments. Karnataka has faced losses due to such governments. So, for fast-paced development of Karnataka, BJP's full majority, and stable government is needed," Modi said.
Addressing a mega public meeting here, he asked, "When no one gets full majority, will Karnataka be in bad shape or not? Do you want a strong and stable government or not? Do you want a government with full majority or not? "The first job should be to bring Karnataka out of the politics of manipulation and take it forward at a fast pace," he said.

The Delhi Police has registered a case against unidentified people for recording and circulating an audio message containing the threat to remove the Indian flag from Pragati Maidan, the venue for high profile G-20 meet in September.
The case was registered at the complaint of a man who received the pre-recorded message on his phone when he arrived at the Delhi airport.

A case under sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion etc) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at IGI Airport Police Station, they said.
The case has been transferred to the Special Cell unit of the Delhi Police, they added.
Singh, the radical preacher, is on the run after the Punjab Police arrested several of his supporters in a major crackdown that began weeks after the group stormed the Ajnala Police Station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested associate.
The episode had raised fears over the possibility of the return of Khalistani militancy to the state that borders Pakistan.
Police said efforts are on to trace Amritpal Singh. A lookout circular and a non-bailable warrant has been issued against the Khalistan sympathiser.

&nbsp;Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday rubbished the contention that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s conviction in a defamation case and the subsequent disqualification was linked to the latter&rsquo;s raising of the Adani Group issue.
Rahul Gandhi made the defamatory remarks way back in 2019, Prasad said.

He asserted that the Congress leader had &ldquo;insulted OBCs, an issue that will be taken up in all earnestness by the BJP across the country&rdquo;.
