Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari's remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji have created a political storm in the state with political parties and various organisations joining in the protests.

On Thursday, Koshiyari was forced to cut short his speech on the first day of the Assembly session as Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress MLAs protested against his remarks.

Koshyari, during a programme in Aurangabad on Sunday, underlined the role of the guru while speaking about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chandragupta Maurya. He claimed that Samartha Ramdas was Shivaji's guru. This has riled up political parties and many organisations in the state where Shivaji is an icon.

The protests against governor took a dramatic on Thursday when NCP MLA Sanjay Daund did a 'sheershasan' in protest.

Amid protests, Koshiyari tried to soothe the nerves by saying that he would verify the facts regarding his remarks. He added that he never tried to belittle Shivaji, but only mentioned the role of a guru.
