Madrassa razed in Assam over alleged connection to terror outfits

The Assam government’s action against illegal madrassas in the state continued on Wednesday as the authorities demolished another structure.

The madrassa located in Bongaigaon district was allegedly linked to terror outfits Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent and Bangladesh-based Ansarullah Bangla Team. This is the third such educational institution in Islamic sciences to be demolished by the government this month.

On August 26, a teacher of the madrassa, Hafizur Rehman was arrested by the police.

Around 40 people including a Bangladeshi national have been arrested since March this year in the northeastern state for their alleged links to both these terror outfits and have been accused of attempting to set up jihadi sleeper cells in the state.
