How Muslims in Manipur are struggling amid deadly Kuki-Meitei conflict

The ethnic clashes between Kuki and Meitei community that have gripped the northeastern state of Manipur for over 3 months now have not just affected the two communities, Meitei Pangals, or Muslims of the state are bearing the the brunt of the clashes too.

NDTV in its report said, Manipur muslims are calling for peace and urging both sides to halt confrontations.

A team of the news outlet visited Kwakta in Bishnupur district, Meitei district and spoke to muslim population in the village.

Salauddin Qasimi from the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in Bishnupur district told NDTV, how due to the conflict, security forces temporarily utilised two mosques in Kwakta, leading to some gunfire.

Although not involved in the ongoing conflict, the Muslim community in Manipur is tragically entangled in the hostilities between the Meiteis and Kukis which has affected their livelihood.

Nasir Khan, a Muslim scholar, while speaking with NDTV in Kwakta said, residents of the village are living in panic.
