G20 Summit | China confirms President Xi not to attend; Premier Li to head delegation

Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi this week and the delegation will be led by Premier Li Qiang, the foreign ministry announced in Beijing on Monday.

At the invitation of the government of the Republic of India, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang will attend the 18th G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, India on September 9 and 10, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said in a brief statement.

Speculations were rife over Jinping's presence at the event as Sina-India relations have gone cold following the stand-off in Arunachal Pradesh in 2020.

Although, there have been a lot of high-level military talks between both sides and the talks ended without any fruitful results.

Notably, on Sept 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected China's objections for conducting G20 events in 'disputed' Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.
