From 'Rahul childish' to 'only Congress can...': Ghulam Nabi Azad on Gujarat, Himachal elections

Ghulam Nabi Azad, the veteran politician who recently quit the Indian National Congress to launch his own outfit, had interesting words for his old party. Azad, on 6 November 2022, said that only the Congress can give a tough fight to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that the other contender, Aam Aadmi Party is not capable of challenging the BJP as it is "merely a party of Delhi". He said that AAP had failed in Punjab, and people won't vote for it again.

Regarding his split with the Congress, Azad said that he supported the party's policy of secularism, but quit due to weakening of the party's internal system.

Azad had resigned from the Congress in August 2022 with a scathing letter accusing the party leadership. He had claimed that a coterie runs the party and major decisions are taken by "Rahul Gandhi or rather worse his security guards and PAs". Azad had also called Rahul Gandhi "non-serious", "immature", and "childish".
