Amid the ongoing manhunt for fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh, teams of Delhi Police and Punjab Police on Friday launched a search operation in the national capital and its border after receiving intelligence inputs of a sighting of Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal at Delhi's ISBT bus terminal.
According to media reports, intelligence inputs suggested that he may be disguised as a sadhu and his aide Papalpreet Singh is accompanying him.&nbsp;
Earlier, an alert has also been issued in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand as a precaution in view of the possibility of Amritpal Singh entering the state.

The four per cent reservation will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota for the Vokkaligas and Lingayats for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly Session last year.
The cabinet decided to bring the religious minorities under the EWS category.
The decision comes ahead of the assembly elections.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the religious minorities quota would be done away with and brought under the 10 percent pool of the EWS group without any change of condition.
&ldquo;The four per cent (reservation for minorities) will be divided into two between 2C and 2D. The four per cent reservation for the Vokkaligas and others will enhance to six per cent and Veerashaiva Panchamasali and others (Lingayats), who were getting five per cent reservation will now get seven per cent,&rdquo; the CM explained.

The court said undertrial prisoners, who were released on emergency bail during the pandemic, can move for regular bail before competent courts after their surrender.

A bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar said undertrial prisoners, who were released on emergency bail during the pandemic, can move for regular bail before competent courts after their surrender.
"All the convicts who were released during Covid-19 pandemic after their surrender can move competent courts for suspension of their sentence", the bench said.
Several convicts and undertrial prisoners, mostly those who were booked for non-heinous offences, were released during the pandemic in various states on the recommendations of high-powered committee set up in pursuant to directions of the apex court.&nbsp;

The Congress on Friday announced a nationwide agitation against Rahul Gandhi's disqualification, alleging that the government has acted with lightning speed to "gag" him, and called for taking forward opposition unity in a systematic manner.
Soon after Gandhi's disqualification by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Congress leadership got into a huddle at the party headquarters and deliberated on the way forward.
Congress general secretary Ramesh said, "We will go all over country as Rahul Gandhi was deliberately disqualified for raising his voice against the Modi government on the Adani issue, on the government's foreign policy and the clean chit given to China for incursions at the border." Ramesh said the BJP is rattled with the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which, he said, became a movement.
The Congress leadership has welcomed the statements of support of all opposition leaders, he said and asserted that "we should now take the issue of opposition unity forward in a systematic way".
It was noted today that many opposition parties have condemned the action taken unilaterally with such lightning speed to disqualify Rahul Gandhi, he said.

However, the EC is likely to wait for the 30-day period granted by the court to allow Gandhi to file an appeal against the conviction.
While Rahul can move higher courts appealing against the judgement, but if the sentence is not stayed or reversed, he will be barred from contesting elections for for a total of eight years, two years of jail term and another six years from the date of his release from prison, according to Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
He can also be asked to vacate his government bunglow in central Delhi.

A sarus crane in UP's Rae Bareli which was recently taken away by the forest department from its rescuer Mohd Arif has gone missing, as per reports.
Nicknamed as Bachcha, the bird has not been seen since March 22 and searches were on to locate the bird, IANS reported.
&nbsp;A senior forest official said there is a possibility that the bird fled the sanctuary in search of Arif and lost its way. Arif was looking after the bird for the past one year and the bird had reportedly developed an attachment with him.
The bird apparently refused to leave Arif after forest officials came to take it citing the Wildlife Protection Act and saying that a wild bird cannot be kept in captivity.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on March 22 slammed the forest officials saying that in the name of freeing the state bird of Uttar Pradesh, the forest department took away the Sarau crane from the man who was looking after it and the bird was now missing.

The BJP on Friday suggested that a conspiracy within the Congress might have played a role in its leaders not approaching a higher court for relief for Rahul Gandhi after his conviction as it had done so in the case of Pawan Khera within hours of the Assam Police arresting him.
Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Anurag Thakur also hit out at the Congress over its criticism of the court judgment convicting Gandhi and said the Nehru-Gandhi family suffers from "feudal mindset" and a "sense of entitlement" as its members believed in a separate set of laws and democratic system for themselves.
"Law is equal for everyone," Pradhan told reporters at a press conference, accusing Gandhi of "abusing" backward castes with his "thieves" jibe aimed at "Modi surname".
Hitting back at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his claim that Gandhi has been punished for speaking the truth on the Adani-Hindenburg issue, he asked if abusing deprived and backward communities means speaking the truth.
Both the BJP leaders asserted that Gandhi's disqualification was a natural outcome of the law as the Supreme Court has made it clear that a lawmaker stands disqualified from the time of his conviction. The Lok Sabha speaker has only confirmed this legal position, they said.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified Gandhi as MP from Wayanad in Kerala a day after a Surat court convicted him in a 2019 criminal defamation case for his remark "How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?" Following his disqualification, he would not be able to contest elections for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction and sentence.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has accepted Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia&rsquo;s request for more time to appear before it over the excise policy case. Reports said the central probe agency will issue a fresh notice to him in the coming days.&nbsp; Sisodia, who was called by the CBI on February 19, for questioning, is among the 15 people being probed in the Delhi excise policy &ldquo;scam&rdquo;. But his name is not in the chargesheet that the probe agency filed in 2022. The Deputy CM cited the preparation of the Delhi Budget while seeking more time.&nbsp;

The Representation of the People Act states that any elected representative is immediately disqualified if they are sentenced to prison for two or more years.&nbsp;
The plea questioned the consitutional validity of this law and called it arbitrary.&nbsp;
It stated that the law is being blatantly misused for wreaking personal vengeance on political opposition. The plea added that the rule does not take the nature and gravity of the offences into considering providing for blanket disqualification.&nbsp;

Charred bodies of three Mizoram residents, including a woman, were found in a jungle inside Myanmar near the international border, a senior police officer said on Friday.
The three had gone missing on March 19 after they set out for Myanmar from Ainak village in Siaha district.
They had been held hostage by miscreants, believed to be from Myanmar, who were once involved with a rebel group before they disassociated from it, Inspector General of Police (Law &amp; Order) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte told PTI.
The miscreants killed the three apparently for failing to return in full amount the money meant for purchasing weapons, the police officer said.
The charred bodies were recovered from a forest inside Myanmar about two kilometres from the international border on Thursday, he said.
"The perpetrators of the crime are believed to be from Myanmar. The state police have launched a manhunt for the miscreants,&rdquo; Khiangte said.
Mizoram shares a 510 km long international border with Myanmar.

Gandhi, the former Congress president, was on Friday disqualified from the Lok Sabha, nearly 24 hours after a court in Surat convicted him in a defamation case.
&ldquo;The expulsion of Rahul Gandhi from parliament is a deep betrayal of Gandhian philosophy and India&rsquo;s deepest values,&rdquo; Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna said in a tweet.
&ldquo;This is not what my grandfather sacrificed years in jail for,&rdquo; Khanna said. Khanna represents Silicon Valley in the US House of Representatives.
Khanna, who is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian- Americans, has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention on this issue.
&ldquo;You have the power to reverse this decision for the sake of Indian democracy,&rdquo; Khanna said in another tweet.
The disqualification will bar 52-year-old Gandhi, a four-time MP, from contesting polls for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction and sentence.

Taking a strong view of pro-Khalistan supporters pulling down the Indian tricolour at the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said India would not accept differential standards of security.
He also accused the UK of not meeting the obligation of providing security to the diplomats of the Mission, which is expected of a country where a high commission or a consulate is located.
&ldquo;On the flag and the security of the high commission, in this particular case in the UK &ndash; whenever any country sends an embassy anywhere abroad, it is the obligation of the receiving country to provide security for a diplomat to do his work.
"It is the obligation of the receiving country to ensure the embassy or the high commission or the consulate and their premises are respected. These obligations were not met,&rdquo; Jaishankar said at an event organised here by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.
Replying to a question on the issue of threat to the diplomats and the Indian diaspora in the UK, the Minister said that on the day the vandals appeared before the high commission, the security at the high commission failed to meet expected standards.
&ldquo;Many countries are very casual about it (security). They have a very different view about their own security and a different view about other people&rsquo;s security, but I can tell you as a foreign minister that we are not going to accept this kind of differential standards,&rdquo; the EAM said.
In the context of Rahul Gandhi's remarks in the UK regarding human rights in India, Jaishankar said though the bulk of those who held Indian passports were deeply attached to the country, there were a small number of people who would claim to be persecuted in their home countries in order to get a visa or residential status.
&ldquo;Now you have a small number of people (who) sometimes misuse it and say 'I am being politically persecuted and, therefore, allow me to stay'. So, it&rsquo;s actually a visa game, which they are playing in the name of politics, human rights or whatever it is,&rdquo; the Minister said.
He cautioned that adversaries of the country could misuse the situation.
Nobody was arguing against freedom of speech and civil liberties, he said, "but these should not be misused to espouse radicalism, violence, terrorism".
He also said there was a difference between having rights and misusing them.&nbsp;
