It was one of the key promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls, following which the party returned to power in the state after a gap of 15 years.&nbsp;
"Unemployed youth will be given an unemployment allowance every month from the next financial year (2023-24),&rdquo; Baghel said without specifying the amount.
Addressing people on the occasion of the Republic Day on Thursday after unfurling the national flag at the Lalbag Parade grounds in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district, Baghel also announced the formulation of a rural industry policy in the state to strengthen the cottage industry-based rural economy.

&nbsp;Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) mayoral candidate Shelly Oberoi moved the Supreme Court on Thursday for directions to ensure that the mayoral election in Delhi is conducted in a time-bound manner, party officials said.
The mayoral election in the national capital was stalled on Tuesday for the second time this month as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House was adjourned indefinitely by the lieutenant governor-appointed presiding officer, following a ruckus created by some councillors.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hooliganism and halting the MCD proceedings, AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said Leader of the House Mukesh Goel and Oberoi approached the top court for directions to ensure that the mayoral election is conducted in a time-bound manner.
The case is likely to be taken up on Friday, AAP leaders said.

"Except the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour, no other honour befits the son of the soil, Late Mulayam Singh Yadav. An announcement should be made to give Bharat Ratna to our respected Netaji without any delay," SP leader tweeted.

The government has made a mockery of Mulayam Singh Yadav's stature and contributions by conferring the Padma Vibhushan on him, Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya said on Thursday, demanding the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for him.
Yadav was on Wednesday posthumously conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour.
Reacting to the award, SP MLA Maurya tweeted in Hindi, "By giving Padma Vibhushan posthumously to Netaji Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Government of India has made a mockery of Netaji's stature, work and contributions to the nation. &nbsp;If Netaji had to be respected then he should have been honoured with Bharat Ratna." Similar views were expressed by party spokesperson I P Singh.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said comprehensive consultations with stakeholders, including political parties, are essential for implementing electoral reforms.
His remarks came against the backdrop of a fresh push by the poll panel for electoral reforms, including the use of remote voting technology to allow migrant voters to exercise their franchise without going to their home states.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission had held consultations with recognised political parties on this matter.
Referring to various proposals on electoral reforms moved by the EC, he said consultations and discussions are "symbols" of a vibrant democracy.
Rijiju said the changes made in election laws a year ago have resulted in addition of over 1.5 crore new voters to the electoral list.

Four cut-off dates instead of the one earlier have helped young eligible citizens to register as voters once they turn 18, he said.
The minister also lauded the move to allow those above 17 years of age to register with the EC in advance. Once they turn 18, their names are added to the voters' list.
Addressing the 13th National Voters' Day event here in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, companion election commissioners and representatives of various political parties, Rijiju recalled the role of various unsung heroes who have not been awarded but have made sacrifices while helping hold free and fair polls.
On the issue of electoral reforms, the minister said he is in constant touch with the Election Commission and has been holding meetings with officials of the poll panel on the issue.
The Legislative Department in the Union law ministry is the nodal agency for issues related to the poll panel, including election laws and related rules.

TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale arrested in money laundering case

The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December last year in a case of alleged misuse of money he had collected through crowdfunding.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Saket Gokhale in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a crowdfunding initiative in Gujarat, official sources said.
Gokhale was taken into custody under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Ahmedabad where he is lodged in judicial custody in a Gujarat Police case.
He was produced before an Ahmedabad court which sent him to the ED custody till January 31, officials said.
The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December last year in a case of alleged misuse of money he had collected through crowdfunding.
The Gujarat High Court had on Monday refused regular bail to Gokhale in this case as it asked him to approach the court only after a charge sheet is filed.
The TMC leader had approached the high court after a sessions court and a magistrate's court in Ahmedabad denied him bail recently following his arrest and expiry of remand.
Gokhale has been in judicial custody since January 5 and lodged at a jail in Ahmedabad. He was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch from Delhi on December 30, 2022, in this case.
The police FIR was registered on a complaint filed by an Ahmedabad resident who claimed to have donated Rs 500 to Gokhale through online mode.
According to police, the case was not just about Rs 500 as Gokhale allegedly collected over Rs 70 lakh from more than 1,700 people through 'ourdemocracy' platform and used that money for personal use. &nbsp; "There was no element of forgery in funds collected by Gokhale through an online platform which is used by even political parties. He is innocent and made a scapegoat. He is a full-time activist sustaining on donations received through crowdfunding. As soon as he joined TMC, he stopped accepting funds to prove his bonafide," Gokhale's lawyer had told the court.
In December, the Gujarat Police arrested him twice for allegedly spreading fake news regarding the cost incurred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Morbi town following a bridge collapse tragedy.&nbsp;

The ruling BJP had earlier complained to the Election Commission about officials allegedly defacing posters and hoardings in public places, instead of removing them.
The accused sector officer in the Sabroom constituency went beyond the model code of conduct, the Additional Chief Electoral Officer said on 24 January 2023. "It appears that the sector officer went beyond the model code of conduct and applied black colour on a poster inside a private shop," ACEO UJ Mog said in a letter to the district magistrate of South Tripura.
"Therefore, it is decided that the officer shall be put under suspension and disciplinary proceedings shall be initiated against him as per the relevant rules," he added.
Tripura is slated to vote on 16 February and results will be announced on 2 March.

The two-part BBC documentary, which claims it investigated certain aspects relating to the 2002 Gujarat riots when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of that state, has been trashed by the Ministry of External Affairs as a "propaganda piece" that lacked objectivity and reflected a "colonial mindset".
The Centre had last week directed the blocking of multiple YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the documentary.
The public screening of the documentary in some places has sparked controversy.

The Delhi civic body yet again failed to elect a mayor and deputy mayor after the proceedings to the house was journed indefinitely amid a ruckus by some councillors on Tuesday.&nbsp;
After the oath of aldermen and elected councillors, the House was adjourned for 15 minutes during which a number of BJP councillors started moving into the House, chanted "Modi, Modi", and raised slogans against AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
They went towards the benches where AAP councillors were sitting and raised slogans, prompting the presiding officer to adjourn the House until a further date.
The civic body is due to elect Delhi's first mayor as a whole after a decade.&nbsp;

"We fully understand the close relationship between the Adani Group and the current govt. But it is incumbent on the Congress party to urge SEBI and RBI to investigate these allegations in the wider public interest," Ramesh said in a statement.

Congress general secretary Communications Jairam Ramesh said the forensic analysis by the Hindenburg research into the Adani Group requires serious investigation by bodies like the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as they are responsible for ensuring stability and security of the country's financial system.
"We fully understand the close relationship between the Adani Group and the current government. But it is incumbent on the Congress party as a responsible opposition party to urge SEBI and RBI to play their roles as stewards of the financial system and to investigate these allegations in the wider public interest," Ramesh said in a statement.
The Congress general secretary said normally a political party should not be reacting to a research report on an individual company or business group prepared by a hedge fund, but the forensic analysis by Hindenburg Research on the Adani group demands a response from the Congress party.
"This is because the Adani Group is no ordinary conglomerate: it is closely identified with Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the time he was chief minister," Ramesh said.

"I had to call off my walk because I can't go against my security people," the Congress leader said.
His party colleague Jairam Ramesh added that Gandhi's security team is holding discussions with the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure that everything goes off smoothly for the next few days.

NC leader Omar Abdullah Friday joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Banihal, saying that the Rahul Gandhi-led march is not being carried out for the image makeover of the Congress leader, but rather to change the situation and atmosphere of the country.
The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said he does not want to delve into Congress' stand on the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The Bharat Jodo Yatra is not aimed at improving the image of Rahul Gandhi but for improving the situation in the country," the National Conference (NC) leader told reporters upon his arrival in this highway town, 120 kilometres from Srinagar.
Abdullah said he joined the yatra as he was more concerned about the image of the country.
"We have not joined this for the image of an individual but for the image of the county," he said.
The NC leader further said Gandhi did not start the yatra for personal reasons but due to his concern over the attempts to create communal tensions and target minorities in the country.
"This government might be making friends with Arab countries but the fact remains that there is no representative in this government from the largest minority of the country," he said.
"It might be for the first time since Independence that the ruling party does not have a single member of parliament -- either in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha -- from the Muslim community. It shows their attitude, " he added.
Speaking on the Congress's stand on the abrogation of Article 370, Abdullah said, "We will fight the case for the restoration of Article 370 in the court. The way the government is dragging its feet on the hearing of the petition tells us that our case is very strong." On the elections in Jammu and Kashmir, he said it has been eight years.
"The last assembly elections were held in 2014. This has been the longest period between the two elections in Jammu and Kashmir. It was not the case even at the peak of militancy," he said.
Omar said the government wants the people of Jammu and Kashmir to beg for elections.
"We are not beggars and we won't beg for it," he said.&nbsp;

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Thursday screened the BBC documentary -- "India: The Modi Question" -- at the Shanghumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram for the general public.

"We received a positive response to the screening from the general public. Lots of people turned up to see it. In view of the positive response, we will show it across the State at various places," Babu told PTI.
KPCC showed the introduction portion of the first part of the documentary and the entire second part at the screening, he said.
He further said the response indicates that people want to know what is there in the documentary and what it is all about.
