Delhi Elections: Big blow to AAP as 7 MLAs resign citing loss of faith in Kejriwal

In a significant setback for Arvind Kejriwal, just days before the Delhi Assembly elections, seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs resigned from the party's primary membership on Friday.

These lawmakers were not offered tickets to contest the upcoming elections, as the party chose new candidates for all seven constituencies.

Bhawna Gaur, the MLA from Palam, wrote a resignation letter to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, stating that she had lost faith in him and the party.

Madan Lal, the legislator from Kasturba Nagar, expressed similar sentiments in his letter.

Both MLAs made it clear that they were stepping down due to their disillusionment with the party's leadership.

"I hereby resign from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party as I have lost faith in you and the party. Please accept the same," wrote Bhawna Gaur and Madan Lal in separate letters.

In addition to Gaur and Lal, five other MLAs—Rohit Mehraulia from Trilokpuri, Rajesh Rishi from Janakpuri, Naresh Yadav from Mehrauli, Pawan Sharma from Adarsh Nagar, and BS Joon from Bijwasan—also quit the party. All these lawmakers had not been given tickets to contest the 2025 Assembly elections.

The AAP's candidate list for the upcoming Delhi elections shows that the party has fielded new candidates, including Mukesh Goel from Adarsh Nagar, Pravin Kumar from Janakpuri, Surendra Bhardwaj from Bijwasan, and Joginder Solanki from Palam, replacing the resigning MLAs.
